STAR POWER
10 09 07 - 11:04 Alexander McQueen’s McQ line of sportif little outfits, shown at the Bowery Hotel, were adorable. So were the tasty miniature pistachio cream cookies, by the way.I also loved Rodarte's punk-fairytale-esque collection. I’ve known Kate and Laura Mulleavy—the label’s sister designer duo—since a wintry day in 2005 when they came to New York’s Thompson Hotel to show one of their first collections to editors. The Mulleavys possess an encyclopedia’s worth of knowledge of the history of fashion, and it’s great to see them culling from the past while also putting forth some new ideas. I got to catch up with the (exhausted) girls later at their afterparty on Freeman’s Alley (hosted by Miranda July, looking her usual ravishing self in, what else, Rodarte).
Speaking of celebrities, I’ve been getting a much-appreciated eyeful of that heartbreaker, Ryan Adams this week as he’s been on the fashion circuit. I’m hoping to catch him in concert at Hammerstein Ballroom next month once all this madness is over.
I’m still recovering from the United Bamboo afterparty at Happy Ending on Saturday night, too. It was awesome because I ran into my old friends Carol Lim and Humberto Leon from Opening Ceremony; as anyone who knows these incredibly cool, intelligent kids can attest, they’re some of the most fun people in the fashion business, and definitely the life of any party.
