BORN IN THE U.S.A.

10 09 07 - 14:56 Derek Lam, Philip Lim, it was a tongue-tying, but inspiring, Sunday. I am just obsessed with American designers right now. It seemed like Derek Lam had raided the boudoir of a 1940s Hollywood starlet, perhaps just back from a weekend tryst in the Palm Springs desert. Loved the louche silks and lizard prints. Philip’s 3.1 collection was also stunning. More chartreuse—in abundance—and zipper miniskirts.

Before I forget, the Ralph Lauren extravaganza at Central Park’s observatory on Saturday night was beautifully orchestrated. NYLON Fashion Director Aya Kanai and I couldn’t get enough of the fabulous flower arrangements. Also, if you weren’t at the show, please, please check out what the inimitable Mr. Lauren wore for his runway bow. I love any man in a jockey’s outfit.

After the show, Aya, Editor-in-Chief Marvin Scott Jarrett, and I hit up the Mister Softie truck right outside the show. I had a rocket pop—red, white, and blue—and so American, just like Ralph. - JENNY
