CHICAGO FASHION WEEK: ELISE BERGMAN

09 10 07 - 12:07 New York City, Paris, Milan, London... Chicago? This week is Chicago Fashion Week, and for many of you, that probably doesn't mean a whole lot. In a city known more for its unfortunate weather and comfort food, fashion hasn't always been our main attraction. But things are changing. Finally. As two editors obsessed with getting dressed, we're more than ready to embrace the change and share our musings from the midwest as guest bloggers. We'll fill you in on the best new local designers, some great off-the-beaten path boutiques and all the excitement of Fashion Focus Chicago.

To kick-off the week, we caught up with two of our favorite designers to come out of the Windy City, Elise Bergman and Karen Zambos.

Elise shows us a look from fall

We surprised a post-bike ride Elise yesterday afternoon by showing up on her front porch. Despite busily planning her first official fashion show next month, the up and coming designer showed us all the stuff she's working on. "I'm inspired by what's around me, and even though the fashion world is focused on spring, as a young designer it's important to pay attention to what people want to wear now," she said. We hung out with Elise as she crafted some vests out of vintage sweaters, entertained some unexpected guests (the plumber) and tried some of her signature wrap dresses on us. Needless to say, she's one to watch (www.elisebergman.com ) -we're obsessed.
