Heidi Pops in for Hilfiger and Izzy Gold

Yo Guys! Heidi the New York intern here.. I was curious to see what heiress, Ally Hilfiger and hip hop fashion designer Izzy Gold had come up with together. Come with me to this renovated hippy church, Novare, as I check out pop art from Ally and Izzy! It's cold in New York so bundle up and pop in for the sake of pop art!

You may remember Ally Hilfiger from Mtv's reality show Rich Girls. What has she been up to since her tv debut? Tommy Hilfiger's daughter isn't just party hopping like many other young heiresses. Creativity runs in the family for the young heiress, however, there's nothing preppy about her style. She spends a lot of time focussing on theater and vibrant pop art. After collaborationg with hip hop streetwear designer Izzy Gold by designing a tee shirt, she began working on art shows with him. She paints variations of the number eight. Literally every Ally Hilfiger paiting I saw was of the number eight. Even though they were simplistic in nature, they were bold, stylish and loud. I would have liked to see more variations in subject matter, however, her art had a certain confidense to it that I enjoyed.

Mac'in With Allister

Willa/Margaret is making her blogging debut today, talking about our tech-master, Allister Banks...

Here we have Allister Banks, the "it" guy at NYLON. He's probably the coolest IT guy you'll ever meet. Today we needed to get some things fixed around the office (a keyboard didn't work, the server was down...), so our main man, AB stoppped by to work his magic.

In a rather short interview we got to know Allister a little better. When asked if he prefers Mac or PC? He said, "Mac, no question." And what's his current soft drink of choice? "Sparkling Vitamin C water. I don't want to get sick!"

Today, NYLON intern/office coordinator Yale, NYLON blogger Tracy, and I went on a rare 3 person excursion: out scouting to find some sick street style around our neighborhood. We strolled up into Nolita, and back around to SoHo, photographing everyone that caught our eye. We found some great subjects for your viewing pleasure. Intern Exodus

As the summer sadly comes to a close, all of the NYLON interns are heading back to school or out into the world...

Either way, it’s incredibly sad thing that everyone has to pack up and move on. It’s been a great summer to intern at NYLON, and I thought that I would bust out a blog to tell you all about the interns that will be leaving us in a few days time.

What you want to do when you have a career: My career goal is to become the Fashion Director at a major publication.
Favorite part of your job: My favorite part of my job is being able to work on projects, that at a larger magazine, wouldn't let an intern work on. oh yeah...AND being surrounded with thousands of dollars worth of amazing clothes.
Most memorable intern experience: I can't pick one memory that is my favorite but these are things that made my internship extra awesome: going on photoshoots, fashion closet conversations, Moses and Abraham, Nylon Music Issue Party
What you will miss most about working here: I am going to miss the people at NYLON so much; the interns, the staff, and the puppies. All of them. Hopefully I will be back soon!

Most memorable intern experience: Assisting on my first shoot! Before interning, I've modeled and every time I did a photoshoot, I would always be interested in what was going on behind the scenes. And since I paid attention so much back then, I knew exactly how to do it when my turn came on the opposite side of the camera! I'm lucky enough to
have experience on both sides!
What you will miss most about working here: Being around the hub of all things cool. Bottom line, NYLON rules.

Favorite part of your job: Getting to see the thought process that goes
into choosing what topics to write on and of course getting the issue
before all of my friends.
Most memorable intern experience: Going to People's Revolution and picking out looks plus talking to Pablo (Manager of PR) was a treat.
What you will miss most about working here: All the awkward moments that just make me laugh when I think back at them. Starting with my first week at Nylon where Stephen (the Photo Director) questioned if I was actually NYLON intern or if I was just a random person that walked off the street and into the office.

As sad as it is to watch all of Summer interns walk out the door, it does mean the exciting prospect of new interns! Just yesterday, Olivia, hailing all the way from London started work in the Ad/Sales department joining new fashion intern F.I.T. student, Kristen! In the next few weeks, I’m sure many new interns will be making their presence known. Who knows, it could be you!

Sweltering Beauty

Today, as we suffered through air conditioning issues, it seemed quite possible that we would melt away, or at least our makeup would. However, Fiorella, our beauty editor returned from her vacation road-tripping up the Pacific Coast, sorted out her mail and made all the interns extremely happy as she generously dispensed lovely beauty products…for free!

A scramble this morning resulted in lots of great stuff for everyone. When Fiorella empties out the beauty closet, you know. The filing cabinet where Fiorella piles all of the designer goodies that she is about to give away instantly becomes like the scene from Mean Girls where the people congregate at the watering hole. Though you would probably think that the situation turns bloody, it’s more likely that you will leave the “free table” feeling woozy from the wafting perfumes and giddy from all your scores.

Today, I got a great little eyeshadow and lipgloss palette from TooFaced, and lipgloss that you can conveniently wear around your neck from YSL (a two-for!). I also picked up some gold earrings that look more like purse hardware than jewelry, but I figure that even if they don’t find their way to my ears, one of my purses could always use a new attitude.
The other iterns also made some great scores. Maria picked up some Gucci stationary and sick Halloween-themed nail polish, just in time for Fall. Chinae grabbed some scented candles for her apartment, Shu Uemura blinged-out eyelashes, and hair products. All the fabulous free things managed to distract us from the sweltering temp in the office, or at least helped to keep our faces in tact.

Aside from the long (melting) faces of everyone at NYLON, our two mascots, Abraham and Moses, were also pretty bummed today, as they were missing their mom, Jaclynn, publisher and founder of NYLON. They split their time between trying to beat the heat in the only cool room in the office, and waiting by the door for Jaclynn’s return. Yale and I took them for a walk today as an attempt to cheer them up. Our intentions were only half-heartedly received by A and M, but I’m sure the change we were looking for will come when Jaclynn gets back tomorrow. It’s too bad they can’t be appeased with free makeup.

Welcome to Intern-al Affairs, our fabulous new intern blog! For now on, this is your source for all things going on inside the NYLON office. Make sure you check it out everyday to see how NYLON churns out your favorite magazine every month!

April, the deputy editor of NYLON is my amazing boss. She’s so busy all the time, so there’s always something to do. My basic duties have a lot to do with researching people, and places for future articles, as well as fact-checking and archiving. As April’s intern, I also get the huge privilege of reading the awesome fan mail. At NYLON, we love to hear what our readers think, good or bad. Not to mention, the letters always come in creative little packages. April gets a TON of mail everyday, and not only from distant admirers, but also from bands and PR companies releasing new CDs. One of the fab perks about working here is that I always get to see what’s coming out in the next few months.

When it does slow down for me, I always pop into the fashion closet to hang out with the Fashion interns, who are always up for celebrity gossip and our Fashion Assistant Nikki (who declined the photo op today). Trips to the closet are one of the best parts of my day, considering I get to sit and watch the gorgeous designer clothes that come shuffling in and out on the hour. Today, the closet was particularly bare, as all of the new shipments were packed up into huge trunks and sent off for a photoshoot. But that doesn’t mean that it won’t be fully stocked with the best selection of runway looks again tomorrow morning.

Yale, half intern, half office coordinator is all amazing. I spent a lot of time this week assisting him with delivering packages around the office and clothes to the closet when they come in. He keeps all the interns in check and takes great care of the adorable NYLON interns, Moses and Abraham (pictures of the doggies are pending). We usually take them for a stroll around SoHo and they get more compliments than any of the models we pass.

Those two precious poochies aren’t the only thing that make working at NYLON different from other magazines. All of the people and interns that work here are so incredible. Stay tuned into the blog to find out what’s going on in our office and to get to know all of the NYLON employees, so you feel like you work here too!
