I Will Survive

Monday, March 31st, 2008

and now, a word from our fashion intern, Caitlin…

An eight-hour day can surely wear on a girl, but even an un-paid intern can tough it out. Between garment returns and Starbucks runs, I’ve conjured up a list of must-haves in the Intern Survival Kit…

Twinkle in my eye

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Really, you don’t have to feel like a Studio 54 club kid to wear glitter (though it doesn’t hurt to have that sort of moxie!).

My fave way to add a little sparkle to my eyes is lining only my lower eyelid with gold Urban Decay “Heavy Metal” eyeliner. It’s a subtle attempt when I’m not feeling ballsy enough to go for the full-out shimmer effect. I find most people do a double-take when the light hits the glitter at certain angles.

I’m not so much of a daily make-up person (save for eyeshadow and mascara), but I love experimenting with beauty products when I feel my outfits aren’t loud enough on their own. So please share your ideas on how you rock glitter! I’d really like to know what products you use and how you apply them. I could use more sparkle in my life.

All She Wants To Do Is Dance

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Weekend update:

Here are some pictures from “The Start” show the other night! It was lead singer “Echo’s” birthday so I threw her a surprise party before the show! We had so much fun. Lots of friends, music and celebrating was had.
Echo had the crowd dancing with delight and singing back all the words to her like she was their very own “rock angel, pied piper”. Watching Chelsea on drums was unbelievable because she makes it look too easy. She kind of reminds me of Samantha from Hole. The show was so good it made me forget how tired I was from my own birthday activities the night before! I can’t leave out my favorite part though! Just like the “changing of rock guards”, the encore was a surprise reunion show of HWP (Echo’s first band)! It was Scott Ellis on drums (he’s currently in She Wants Revenge) and Jeff Schartoff (who now plays with Peter Murphy when he tours) and Mike Tempesta (of Powerman 5000). The night ruled see for yourself!

*Any Vegas Nylon Lovers can go to their show tonight at “The Beauty Bar”.

Internal Info

Monday, March 31st, 2008

and now, a message from our fashion intern, Caitlin…

Pre-internship, I thought I had the heads up on fashion because I constantly checked style.com and I read every fashion magazine I could get my hands on. But being immersed in this industry, in NYC, in the middle of SoHo, is very different than reading a Vogue in a Barnes and Noble in Tallahassee, FL.

You don’t have to be on top of your game here, you need to be ahead of it. Miles, miles, ahead. Fashion forecasting firms charge thousands of dollars to get a peek at their info, but Pantone.com tells you the upcoming color trends for free: perfect for an intern salary. Plus, each color chip is paired with a sweet illustration by a well-known designer!

Hello! Hello! Hello!

So seeing that “White Trash Charms” has always felt like my “moonlighting gig” to my decade of being a “wardrobe stylist”, I have a rather emotional announcement to make. I have decided to switch things up in my life and make “WTC” my sole job and you my pretty things, get to benefit from it!

Throughout my amazing career of styling, I have always prided myself on my “KIT”. I have a entire basement filled with clothes to prove it. I’m the girl that always went out of pocket to make my job the best of the best when producers wanted top quality on minimal budget. I would ease my guilt of going out of pocket by telling myself that at least my “kit” would be worthy of dressing any movie job that ever came my way. You have no idea how many times my “kit” has saved the day for me and all my stylist friends. Well, the day has come, I AM RETIRING. I have said this for over a year, yet I always get the call for a job that lures me back. It is so hard to say no to a styling job because I have a true passion for it.
Alas, I have put my converse down, I am concentrating solely on WTC. After all, the styling baton has been passed, I kind of have no choice. I was lucky and fortunate to have been Andrea Lieberman’s assistant for years, and she gave me my stylist baton and I passed it to one of my best friend’s who I trained, “Miss Simone Harouche”. Simone is holding the baton and is currently running the styling game. She is the one who took Christina Aguileria to be the fashion icon she is today and she styled those insane old school Guess ads you are seeing everywhere right now, not to mention she also dresses Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Richie and Panic At The Disco …..

Well here’s where you come in!

Me and Simone are having a Yard sale this sunday in La. I am getting rid of my ENTIRE kit and Simone is recycling hers. I couldn’t even begin to explain what is going to be there, because it’s amazing! So come join us and I will show you how that weird 70’s dress is straight out of “Eyes Of Laura Mars” hot!

The KIT SALE is this Sunday in LA. It will have lots of cool stuff, including a few custom things I made for Gwen Stefani.  It will be emotional for me, great for you! Let’s have fun!

8 am to 1 pm

8150 West 4th Street, Los Angeles, Ca 90048

A Nike, Converse, and NY Night.

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Yooooo!

So last night in downtown NYC there were A LOT of things going on around the city. My good pal Heron Preston invited me to the opening of the Nike photo show “Being True” in BK [editor’s note: BK - Brooklyn].

Many young and working photographers were showing their work… Many of whom shoot for NYLON! It was super crowded so it was hard to snap some flicks, especially since Mr. Nike himself, Lance Armstrong, was in attendance. But afterwards, across the bridge, Converse had a fun jump off in Nolita. The space had a wall where you could grab a marker and get up.

Check some polaroids from the New York Gritty night.

Song + Site Of the Day

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Today’s site of the day is JacksonPollock.org, but it’s not what you think:

The site has absolutely no information about the famed American artist - instead, you go there, you click your mouse around, and you make your own virtual Pollock.  We were captivated for 20 minutes.  Then we got sick of it and clicked back to NYLON.

As for our song, it’s from a group of London transplants called The Maccabbees, and it’s called Precious Time.

The Maccabbees are the first band we’ve heard in a while that made us want to drop everything and dance, and their sound is unique without being alienating.  We’ve been playing their whole album nonstop, but if you want a quick taste, go to their MySpace page.

But if you start jumping up and down in front of your computer, don’t say we didn’t warn you…
