Jewel Kids Are Cool Kids

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Here’s something that happens a lot in New York:

You get an invitation to a party, and you say, “Yeah, I’ll go,” because you’re sort of friends with the girls on the invitation. You have no expectations of anything fun, at all, and you plan a 15 minute drive-by before allowing yourself to run home, make tea, watch Gossip Girl (even if it’s a rerun).

But then you show up, bump into a ton of friends, see guys who are actually cute and social and not in a band (a weakness, I confess). And you stay at the party you dreaded to attend for hours.

That’s basically what happened last night, when someone slipped an invite for Lizzie Fortunato jewels under my door. It said the fete was hosted by Annabelle Dexter Jones, the little sister of Charlotte / Samantha / Marc Ronson, and someone who’s genuinely awesome. So I went, thinking I’d air kiss and be done, but I was stopped in my tracks by this great jewelry by Lizzie herself. In the words of our fashion news expert, Rajni, “you can wear it with jeans and a t-shirt and automatically have an outfit” – a big bonus when you roll out of bed and literally pick your outfit off the floor.

To the left is designer Lizzie and her sister, Kathryn. And below are some of my favorite pieces – plus a photo of Annabelle herself. After all, if it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have crashed into my crush at a party I was meaning to skip (no way, not telling who).

PS: Fashion Gossips – Phillip Lim asked to see their look book… runway speculations, anyone?

Karl Lagerfeld Spotting!

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Attention, fashion junkies:

If you think Phoebe Philo is cooler than Gwyneth Paltrow, and would rather hang out with Zac Posen than Zac Efron, here’s some eye candy:

Karl Lagerfeld, shooting his latest campaign in Madison Square Park, with his ultra-hot bodyguard (and model) Sebastian Jondeau.

The photo was taken by Mordechai Rubenstein of Jack Spade fame. What it doesn’t show?

Brazilian blondie Raquel Zimmerman, with her hair cut into a sharp bob, modeling the latest Fendi collection.

If you really want to see Karl, stalk him out at the Mercer Hotel, where he always stays in NYC… despite having his own apartment in midtown.

There are even better pics on Fashionista because their team basically walked up to Karl the way you’re not supposed to approach lions at the zoo.  It looks like it’ll be a pretty incredible campaign…

I Love NY(lon)

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Thanks to Just Jared for these adorable photos, on the set of New York, I Love You.

The movie, starring Kevin Bacon, Julia Stiles, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Ethan Hawke, is an ode to NYLON’s hometown, and apparently, the movie producers know it:

Check out Mr. Hawke at left, posing in front of the Rachel Bilson issue of NYLON!

Sadly, our magazine isn’t a plot point in the film, but at least it’s getting read by all the main characters…

But who would be in the NYLON movie?

NYLON cupcakesToday, we got some cupcakes.

They had our names on them.

We wanted to eat them, but it felt a little like cannibalism.

So we took a lot of pictures.

How postmodern.

Sigh.

xo NYLON.

Up, Up, and Away: The Silverjet Live Blog

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

I’m a really nervous flyer, but in about an hour, I’ll be on a jet to London (and you can check our homepage for the stories on fashion, musiFaran in her Podc, and art that I scoop up while I’m there).

Meanwhile, here’s the view from the Silverjet Terminal, which feels sort of like a fun house for British businessmen and random Australian girls in Superfine jeans (guilty, I’m totally wearing them, too) who like champagne, internet, and Smartfood.

I think I’m the only American here, but ooohmigosh I love that they just have bags of Smartfood lying around.

Anyway, there I am in my “Sleep Pod,” which is like a giant round chair from the Austin Powers era. And below is my Jeremy Scott bag, all stuffed and ready to go, plus the Smartfood that I am totally smuggling on the plane.

See you in London! Leave me some comments to let me know what I should find and cover on NylonMag.

xo F. PS – seriously, there’s the Smartfood from the plane, below.

Heart Truth

heart_urbn1.jpg

Hi guys! I’m sure plenty of people (myself included) used to have tons of clothing with heart prints when they were younger. When I wore heart-shaped shades this past summer, I’ve had so many people ask me if they were vintage, or that the pair reminded them of heart-shaped sunnies they had from childhood. There’s been quite a surge in hearts motifs found in apparel and accessories from the past year and I’m loving the nostalgia.

I wore these sunnies at a summer show at Brooklyn’s McCarren Pool where a girl stopped me because she was wearing the same pair! Except she confessed she bought hers from eBay, when she could have gone to Delias or Urban Outfitters for cheaper.
