Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Attention Anaheim and Las Vegas: Get your tickets now! We really want to see you!

Under the influence of Zooey and Erin Fetherston

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Hey dudes, check out Dreamy Wander, the new Erin Fetherston Fall/Winter 08-09 video!

It’s trippy, dark, magical, and ethereal — just like her latest collection.

Directed by Ellen von Unwerth, who’s done all of Erin’s short films  so far, it’s nine minutes of the wonderous Zooey Deschanel looking pretty while she’s rolling around in the forest and dancing with fairies while she’s high on mushrooms.

See for yourself!

Starting Rumers

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

We love this outtake of Rumer Willis from her first NYLON photo shoot, a few months ago. She’s supposed to be the new face of Walmart, which is really odd, but who knows, maybe it’ll work. Anyway, let’s hope these shots are proof to some celebrity hounds that she’s quite capable of posing in front of the world.

Street Heart

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

If you go down to Bayard Street in Chinatown, you will find a tiny Bubble Tea emporium that is my new favorite place.

First of all, it has a giant Homer Simpson statue outside.

Second of all, it has a giant Nightmare Before Christmas doll inside.

Then there are the vending machines - giant Bubble Gum dispensers that spit out Japanese charms of Pandas, Kitties, Robots, Tinkerbells, and other basic forms of amazingness.

And then there are the girls who work there.

If you can find a cuter, cooler, hotter, more stylish teenybopper in all of Manhattan, then I will buy you Bubble Tea, because this girl, with her dyed and crimped and teased hair, her liquid black-glitter eyeshadow, and her t-shirt slashed to the shoulders, is ah-mazing. I’m so in love. Should I try and dress like this tomorrow? xo faran

Song + Site Of the Day

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Today’s site is House of Cassette, an amazing streetwear line based in Los Angeles that also has a very cool following (see left).

The line is often styled by Josh Madden, the creative director of DCMA clothing who also made the cool pair of jeans that Ashley Olsen wore on her NYLON cover last year (see?  we just keep connecting it).

It’s a cool site for stargazing and denim crushing, and they’ll have a brand new lookbook up next week, so keep your eyes open.

Meanwhile, our song of the day is Killer B by Low v Diamond, because sometimes, you just wanna jump around the room…

You can hear it on their MySpace page, or on Indie 103.1, if you live in Los Angeles.

I fell in love with this boy last week because of his outfit:

Gray lightweight cotton jeans, huge bright white sneakers, and a Jeremy Scott hoodie from two years ago that he got in L.A.

The kid was just too adorable, so I had to talk his photo.

It even inspired me to pull my ancient Old Navy puff vest out of the closet and try to update it with giant metal pins from Prada and Karen Walker.

It was cute, but next time I’m totally sticking with Jeremy Scott’s ideas on how to rock a puffy jacket.

And maybe I can find this boy and he can help me!  xo faran

Brooke Went to Coachella, Too! Now She is Sleepy.

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Big kisses to you from the desert.

Although I am not really the “festival” type, Prince killed it and I am forever grateful that I had the pleasure of watching his godlike self on stage.

He was punk, he was sex, he was metal, he was rock and and he was dance all in one. I can go home now a fullfilled “coachella girl”.

Morris Day and the Time joined him and I fell to my knees; Shelia E played on the drums and I danced like a banshee’ when Prince’s girls sang it made me feel as if I was at the gates of heaven;s choir……

And the and only PRINCE turned the whole thing in to a “religious music experience”…….I JUST COULDN’T take how impossibly perfect and unwordly his show was.  Basically, PRINCE rules and I am forever grateful to Coachella for turning me in to a “festival girl” after all.

Now look at my pics while I take a nap.

M.I.A.: MADNESS IS ALLOWED

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

“MIA! MIA! MIA!”

The crowd cheers as Junkie XL descends the stage of the Sahara tent at Coachella. Amongst a crowd of at least three-thousand music-fanatics, I make my way to the press pit to try to secure a spot for what is already one of the most talked about performances of the three-day festival. Held back by a hoard of security guards, I (along with a gaggle of photographers and music bloggers) try to push my way forward. After some heated discussions between the security staff and other photographers, we are eventually sandwiched between the long row of 5-feet high bases and the general barrier, which separates the wild crowd from the main-stage.

As soon as the first beat hits, mayhem ensues. A fight breaks out to my right; two girls tear at each other’s faces (I’m sure one walked away with a tuft of the other’s hair).”Bamboo Banga,” begins and M.I.A. walks to the front of the stage. She is wearing a white wig, which brilliantly reflects all of the neon lights, and is clad in some sort of frock that appears to be made of a criss-cross of black and colored reflector tape. As the music gets louder, the crowd continues to become more uncontrollable. People begin to hop the fence between the general audience and the press pit, and somehow what were empty spaces on the side-stage become filled with sweat-drenched teenagers.

When “Boyz” begins another surge of audience members surges forward. I, who had perched myself on the general barrier to take some pictures, am pushed off by kids trying to hop over.”Come on stage!,” yells M.I.A. “Everyone on stage!,” she commands. And with that, the energy is switched to full-volume. People flood the press pit and begin to climb onstage despite the wishes of the security staff. I duck as not to be hit by the people who attempt to jump from the general barrier onto the row of bases that line the front of the stage. As kids ascend the speakers, I give in. With a gigantic leap I throw myself on-top of one of the bases. I AM NOW DANCING ON STAGE WITH M.I.A..I try to maintain my balance as I stand on the row of bases next to M.I.A.. I realize my favorite pair of sunglasses are no longer on top of my head, but I don’t care; I am dancing on stage in front of a crowd of thousands to the music of one of my favorite artists — and I’m standing next to her! (Plus I found the sunglasses untouched afterwards, yes it was a miracle)

This is hands down the best performance I’ve seen (and been a part of) this weekend… and probably the best in the past year.Hats off to you M.I.A. — you killed it out there and was even nice enough to let me take your picture post-performance in the artist lounge area. (more…)
