First, there was the article on then 24-yr old writer/director Jess Manafort in the Chloe issue of NYLON. Then, I noticed a couple of friends became “fans” of the movie page on Facebook. Finally, after Faran conducted The Insider: Leighton Meester interview, I didn’t need any more convincing to see the movie Remember the Daze, which opened this past weekend. After all, I’m always in the mood for a good coming-of-age movie, and this one fulfilled my expectations.

The film’s about a simple day in the life of students on their last day of high school and middle school in 1999 (the year I was done with middle school myself), and the ways they cope with fears and uncertainties about the future. Remember the Daze is brimming with so many young, up-and-coming talent and it was impressive how each of those 20+ actors held onto their own well-defined character. I mean, we’ve all known friends who are geeks but are definitely not straight-edge (or vice versa: rebellious delinquents who don’t like drugs). We know guys who may hang out with players, but they aren’t ones themselves. We’ve all dealt with concerned parents, annoying siblings, and testing the loyalties of friendships.

The film felt very organic and how things are never what they seem. I won’t give much away, but here’s a small sampling of what to expect:
- Leighton Meester as a blonde
- the soundtrack which includes “Santeria” by Sublime! (how 1999)
- mention of Y2K
- former Spy Kid Alexa Vega in a racy scene
- cringe-worthy awkward flirting techniques
- a certain van scene with fantastic dialogue about meaningful conversation
