Song + Site Of the Day

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Today’s Site of the Day is Who’s More Famous, a game created by the PopSugar crew that is so addictive, your brain will freeze after just five minutes of play.

You might also get outraged, since they think that Kylie is less famous than Jessica Alba (that’s a hint, in case you actually get that question during your elimination round), but whatever.  It’s still amazing procrastination, until your mind turns into a giant Creamsicle.  Play with your friends for added mania.

Today’s song of the day is Tangerine by Led Zeppelin because…

1. We just said “Creamsicle.”

2. Clementines are now on sale at Whole Foods

3. It’s been playing in the NYLON Art Department allllll day.  And we love it.  And them, of course.

Bikini Flash Mob!

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

It’s Sun Awareness Week in the UK, so everyone’s getting hyped about the dangers of tanning beds and the importance of melanoma checks.

That all sounds severe, but somehow, a London fashion posse has managed to make it hysterical.

My friend Ruby from Modus PR managed to mobilize a bikini flash mob – 30 guys and girls in beach gear – to take over St. Pancreas station for the day.

They lazed about on beach towels and showed off their faux tans from St. Tropez, a Euro skincare brand. We were dying when we saw the silly photos in the office, and also a little jealous that we didn’t get a beach day here.

Song + Site of the Day

Today’s Site of the Day is… drumroll…

The Nylon Summer Music Tour site!

You can buy tickets, read about the bands, follow Cory Kennedy’s adventures on the bus, and see photos and NYLON TV segments from the craziness. The tour starts on Thursday in Anaheim, so come out and party with us. NYLON girls will tag team every single show (Bridget, Becca, Lina, Spacey Tracy, and me, Faran, in case you care…) and we can’t wait to see / meet / film / blog you. The Cobrasnake is also coming along to snap you guys, and Marvin designed some NYLON leggings with LnA for the Merch table. It’s going to be awesome, so pick out your outfit now.

Today’s Song of the Day is Sally Simpson by The Who, because as much as we love the bands at left, we’ll be hearing them alllll summer (plus, you can hear them all this week on our MySpace page), and you guys should really get in touch with the old stuff, too.

See you soon,

The Pierces are Fierces

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Last night in Brooklyn, I saw a magic act.

It was a live performance by The Pierces, and it was pretty incredible.  The band consists of two sisters – Allison and Catherine – who came from Alabama with soul, style, and really insane voices.

The sirens have been performing together since they were little, and Allison admitted she “couldn’t imagine doing anything else.”

After hearing them sing their tangy blend of Southern soul singing and uptown rock, I don’t think I’d want them to do anything else, either.

PS, yes, this was the band that performed during the Masked Ball on Gossip Girl – a fact Catherine acknowledges by conceding, “Our MySpace friends are a lot different now – we definitely have some twelve year olds being like, U R My Favorite Band!  But that’s cool, too.”

Hear the hype on myspace.com

Song + Site Of the Day

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Today’s Site of the Day is Your Boyhood, a street style blog from South Korea.

We love seeing fashion in other countries (hence the NYLON book, STREET) and this site is such a cool window into the urban styles of Seoul, a place I confess I’ve never been – although if anyone wants to invite me, I’m totally game.

The website is a great index of inspiration, but it’s also just funny to flick through it and come up with cheeseball puns, like “Seoul Brothers” and “KoReally Awesome.” And now you know what we do in the NYLON office all day…

Today’s Song of the Day is from The French Kicks, because web editor Samantha wants to marry them and have a million of their babies. Or, okay, she just wrote a really great story about them.

So the song is called Sex Tourists, off the album Swimming, and you can find it here:
