Not Another Road Trip Movie
Hey dudes! The Go-Getter is a new flick that’s out in very select theaters (only Quad Cinema in NYC), but it’s a perfect indie darling if you’re looking to detox from the huge summer blockbusters.
The dramedy follows 19-yr old Mercer (Lou Taylor Pucci) who steals a car from Kate (Zooey Deschanel) and embarks on a road trip in search of his estranged older half-brother.
While on the road, Mercer gets sidetracked by former-childhood-friend-turned-precocious-vixen (Jena Malone) and finds himself developing an intimate telephone relationship with Kate, who has left her cell in her stolen car. The dialogue is organic and the overall themes of loneliness and self-discovery hit home with me, as I’m sure it did the other viewers.
And the top three reasons why I think The Go-Getter is worth your while:
1.) Lou is excellent!!! Like his performance in Thumbsucker, Lou truly carries the entire weight of the film and delivers (in an old school Volvo, no less); 2.) The soundtrack features the music of M. Ward (which makes me wonder if that’s how She & Him came into fruition); and 3.) Zooey Zooey Zooey Zooey Zooey (duh).
