Everything You Ask Us About NYLON

The Top Five Questions We Get From Readers, plus answers…
1. CAN I BE AN INTERN FOR NYLON?
The Short Answer: Maybe.
The Long Answer: To intern for NYLON, you must be based in New York City. No exceptions. You must be 18 years old, or older. You must be in college, or at least pretend to be in college. And you must open the NYLON masthead, find the person you want to intern for, and SEND A LETTER TO THEM DIRECTLY. The first sign of being a good NYLON intern is taking some initiative, so go to it. We love you, a lot, but we’re not gonna hire you from a MySpace message. But we do love you.
2. CAN I BE A MODEL FOR NYLON?
The Short Answer: Um… not really?
The Long Answer: We cast our models from professional agencies in New York City. If you’re dying to be a model, that’s great – check out the list of reputable agencies on Douglas the Casting Director’s blog and send them your photos and contact information. If they think you can be a model, they’ll call you. If they don’t, it doesn’t matter – you’re gorgeous anyway. Go be a teacher or a brain surgeon or an artist, which are all very sexy and cool occupations.
3. CAN I BE A NYLON PHOTOGRAPHER OR ILLUSTRATOR?
The Short Answer: Send your portfolio!
The Long Answer: We hire our photographers the same way we hire our staff – by getting recommendations from people we love, by seeing something that absolutely blows us away in another magazine or a gallery, or occasionally by seeing a really amazing portfolio. If you’d like to shoot for NYLON, send a CD Rom of your images to our bookings department (again, their names are in the masthead) and good luck.
4. CAN MY BAND BE IN NYLON?
The Short Answer: Probably!
The Long Answer: NYLON loves new bands, especially NYLON TV. If you have songs you think belong on a NYLON TV segment, mail them to our NYLON TV producers (you can find them – yes – in the magical masthead) and we’ll check it out. That’s usually the first step to getting featured in NYLON, unless you’re opening for the White Stripes in which case… well, in which case, you’ve probably already been in NYLON.
5. I AM COMING TO NEW YORK. CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE TO GO SHOPPING?
The Short Answer: Yes.
The Long Answer: Barney’s Co-op, Opening Ceremony, Madewell, Min-K, Diesel, Urban Outfitters, Foley + Corinna, Pixie Market, The Sanrio Store in Times Square, Albertine, Marc by Marc Jacobs… oh yeah, you’ll have a good time here.
xo NYLON.

You guys should check out our boutique if your ever in Chicago. Hell, we should do an event together. We are planning on doing our Fall Fashion show, obviously in Fall. We just had our Spring, and Jeffrey Sebelia from Project Runway hosted it. He , along with a couple other key designers that we believe in are normally involved in these shows. We had Steve Aoki and THe Darkwave Disco DJs booked, but Aoki bailed the day of. Anyway, drop me a line. Im sending some bands your way also.
