Cold War Kids get hot in the city

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

A friendly memo that Cold War Kids are playing a FREE show tomorrow at Prospect Park’s Celebrate Brooklyn series!!!

The guys are embarking on a massive world-wide tour in August for their upcoming sophomore album, dropping September 23rd.

But if you really can’t wait to see them live (or if you can’t make it to BK tomorrow), here’s a “making the album” sneak peek video of these Long Beach rockers.

“the Robot” not the dance.

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

My friend just sent me this and I had to share.

It’s a band called, well, I don’t think it can be called a band due to it’s members being all robots. Or perhaps seeing that a human is the mastermind behind this it has validity to being called a band?

See for yourself and let me know your thoughts. Nylon blog readers, I present “THE TRONS”.

Side note * Me and Tim (from Ok GO) will be spinning at Pash tomorrow night around 10 pm.

Come dance!

xo Brooke.

Live from the Alexander Wang Sample Sale!

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Well, here we are at the Alexander Wang Sample Sale.  It’s at 396 Broadway, just below Canal Street in NYC.  And it’s pretty good, but not super cheap (yet).

It looks like the best bets are amazing cashmere sweaters, on sale for $40.  There’s also a lot of gauzy tops in white and black, which go for around $100, plus dresses for $180 and those famous black tweed jackets for $275.

So if you’re…

Very stylish, between a size 2 - 10, looking for a Fall wardrobe,  and not broke, this is a good sample sale for you.

If you’d never spend more than $40 on anything, you can hold out until the last day and see how the markdowns go.  Or you can go shop at H&M which is also really fun.

PS - Just saw Charlotte Ronson buying sweaters here!!!  xo faran

PPS - Check out our video of Alexander Wang’s fashion show for a view of the clothes in action.

Are the Virgins Both Lowbrow and Brilliant?

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

New York Mag is stoked on the Virgins, though they think they’re Lowbrow… really? Seriously? “You don’t have to be such an asshole all the time” isn’t one of the most poignant lyrics you’ve heard in years? We really disagree. But it’s cool to see them name-checked.
