Beauty and the Beat

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Fiorella cleaned out the Beauty Closet last week, and that meant a stampede.

Hundreds of products leaked onto NYLON’s conference table, and everyone – seriously, the fashion closet, the edit desk, the web girls, NYLON TV – everyone descended like US Weekly reporters on Gwyneth. It was pretty major.

Here’s a quick list of NYLON favorites, meaning: the stuff that went fast, went first, and sometimes caused little fights:

Dior Lipsticks. Anything from Bed Head. Neon nail polish. Urban Decay eye shadows. Aveda conditioners. Kiehl’s lip balm. Ouidad hair gel. Chanel foundation. Chanel lipsticks. Chanel perfume. Chanel black nail polish. Chap sticks. Pink plastic vibrators.

The rest of it will be shipped off in Freebie Friday batches very soon, so stay tuned. xo faran.

Bridget’s Passport to Sexy

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Tomorrow morning, Bridget and Becca fly to Minnesota for Be Your Own Pet’s music video shoot.

They are stoked except for one thing:

Bridget’s suitcase broke.

Fortunately, Jay and Dani had a solution for her in the fashion closet:

Victoria’s Secret’s Passport to Sexy suitcase that was, um, somehow abandoned by everyone else.

So when Bridget arrives in Minnesota, she will be carrying a passport to sexy along with her camera equipment and Urban Outfitters sundresses.

Doesn’t she look stoked?

Private Icon: Kit Kitredge

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Here’s one style inspiration that might not make it into the page of NYLON:

American Girl Kit Kitredge.

Like every other AG, she’s sassy, smart, resourceful.

But she’s also got really great hair.

This has nothing to do with her triumph over The Great Depression, her love for her family, and her upcoming movie, which stars Abigail Breslin in the title role.

But it does make me think her whole Little-House-in-the-New-Deal look could be very, very cool to emulate:  Especially with the slouchy car coats that Marc Jacobs just put out, and the floral blouses favored by both Blair Waldorf and Nicole Richie.

Do you think we could pull off an American Girl private icon on Nylonmag.com?  Or should we head back to rock stars and art babes?

Theater Nerds Rejoice

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Every summer in New York, it’s the same:

Tons of stage junkies, camped outside for Shakespeare in the Park tickets, spending an entire afternoon getting tan on the sidewalk just to get coveted play tickets.

But now things are a little easier:

This year, the Public Theater announced rather quietly that you could apply for tickets online instead of waiting in an actual line.

Tickets aren’t guaranteed, but for a few seconds of pointing and clicking, it’s totally worth a shot.

This season, they’re doing Hamlet and Hair (at left). And if you’re a true and major theater nerd, you can answer this question:

Name the passage of text that’s recited in BOTH plays.

Muhaha… xo faran
