the Met, summer’s best bet

Hey dudes! There are some cool special summer exhibitions going on at the Metropolitan Museum of Art here in NYC that are worth peeping at. Here’s a rundown of a few highlights!

Pop Art: Works on Paper is an installation of prints from the mass-produced, pop culture infused, bold graphic art era made famous by icons like Warhol, Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, and others. Now on view til August 10th, this exhibit is on display in the Modern Art section.

Summer box office means the inevitable superhero blockbuster. It’s obviously no surprise that fashion and costume design plays an integral role in the creation of these various heroes and villains we come to obsess over. Get to the Special Exhibition Galleries before September 1st for The Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy or it will be gone before you know it!

Though once argued against it being a true form of art, photography is now an important medium of visual expression and documentation. The Met’s newest gallery space, the Menschel Hall for Modern Photography is now showcasing a rather post-modern look at a picture-in-picture theme with Photography on Photography, featuring snaps since the 60s.

The Met’s Roof Garden is definitely one of the main reasons you wanna check out the museum in the summertime. Insane bubble-sculptor Jeff Koons has three original pieces up on the building top this year. The view of an oversized metallic balloon doggie against the backdrop of Manhattan’s skyline is pretty sick.
