Kicking It Old School

I’m obsessed with vintage clothes, old rock albums, and antique furniture.

But ancient vaudeville theater?

I didn’t think I’d like it.

Still, I went dragging to The 39 Steps, a Broadway play based on Hitchcock’s 30′s thriller (which was – don’t laugh – reworked as a Ducktale’s episode in the ’80s, which I still remember).

And despite the excellent Jenny-Humphrey-as-hipster that we saw on this week’s episode of Gossip Girl, I have to say, The 39 Steps is the best thing I’ve seen all month.

First of all, there’s only four people in the show – playing about a hundred people altogether.  They throw around wigs, coats, and glasses to change character, and they are amazingly funny – imagine Monty Python trying to make a film noir.

Second of all, the show lasted an hour and a half – shorter, even, than the Project Runway finale – so I couldn’t get antsy or bored.

And third, omigod, it was just so brilliant and funny.

Here’s the website; if you’re in Manhattan and looking for a good show (or if your parents / grandparents / siblings are and they’re making you come), this is the one to see.
