Ladies, Start Your Engines

Check out model and student Riley Keough at the MTVU Woodie Awards this week.
Riley’s the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and the granddaughter of Elvis, but that’s not why we like the 18-year-old a little bit better than Hannah Montana:
It’s because her style is low key and comfortable without being cloying, and besides the fantastic hair (sigh), we love that she’s chosen this black dress from up-and-coming designer label Doucette Duvall.
Besides the fact that its creative director, Annabet, was both Faran and Holly’s boss a long time ago, the clothes are cool without being too “look at me” – something everyone can appreciate on a tough or tired day.
Check out details on Riley’s dress at the Doucette Duvall website.
As for her killer shoes, you’re on your own with those.
xoxo

Half the editors in our office are hopelessly in love with these cuffs by Meredith Kahn, the designer behind “Made Her Think.”
Meredith designs everything in New York City’s lower east side, but she goes everywhere to get her materials:
The sting ray and eagle ray skins on her cuffs come from Thailand.
The metalwork comes from India.
The leathers come from Italy.
And the fan base comes from Los Angeles.
Then there’s the other half of our office, who are either vegan (so they won’t wear sting rey) or just too low maintenance to wear heavy metal jewelry.
For them, Meredith created bangles in the same shape…
Only plastic!
They come in black, ivory, white, purple, and pink.
It’s very hard not to love them.
And since Meredith doesn’t have her own blog, we told her we’d put them on ours!
To all you aspiring designers out there: Just because you’re still waiting for that Project Runway callback doesn’t mean all hope is lost.
Supima (think the touch, the feel of cotton…) is back with another Design Contest. Like last spring’s competition, this one is based off of the 1954 Wool Secretariat contest that introducted the world to Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld.
The second open call is tomorrow (Friday) at NYC’s Thompson Hotel. Bring a sample garment and a warm coat (you’ll probably be waiting in the cold for a while). If you’re selected, you’ll be invited to create an eveningwear piece for the January 14 runway walk-off. And after that, who knows? Global domination?

Photographer Jens Andersson has been crucifying his Adidas Superstar sneakers and snapping them all over America.
The images are kind of hypnotizing and a little bit disturbing -
Especially if, like us, you’re always bummed to see a great pair of sneakers ruined.
Maybe it’s okay to sacrifice some good kicks all in the name of art?
Guess that’s WJWD (what Jens would do).
But WWJD?
Probably wear those great sneakers all over Galilee…
