Fan Mail (?!)

It’s no secret that NYLON gets a lot of nutty feedback – see the psycho LOL Cat comments on Peaches’ first column if you doubt it – but this new video might be the weirdest.

It’s a “critique” of NYLON starring two teens named Yuli and Julia, and it’s amazing.

First, the girls talk about Lily Allen’s failsafe strategy for landing a guy (take all your clothes off in his bed when he’s not looking).  Then they wear biker helmets in a snarky homage to Giles Deacon’s Pac Man runway show – as seen in our most recent Beauty opener.

And finally, they spoof the Alan Clarke makeup spread on page 174 by applying their own outrageous color palettes.  But the funniest thing is that they really believe they look ridiculous – when actually, honestly, these girls look pretty damn perfect.  Maybe not for 11 am meetings, but definitely for a night of breaking curfew.

Check out the entire video here – and Y&J, if you’re reading, thanks.  Next time, critique Guylon, too.

    Dear Y&J,

Contrary to what you believe, the 90s are back in full swing and that yellow casio watch set my heart on fire. Further, who else is the christmas list going to be for? Subtly Nylon throws in their own christmas list, which suits Nylon readers just perfectly, and non-Nylon-readers not so perfectly.

Further, bold glaring make up is like couture, perfect for magazine spreads, catwalks and special occasions, and not something you whack on with your black jacket.

    Ta, Leah.

haha, Um, ’90′s are back in full swing’ – with Nylon mags demographic they certainly may be, but for the larger fashion picture, the aesthetic you’re defending is just a lark for those who remember, and I can’t help but notice it’s defended only by those too young to remember. You’re a fun mag, but you often lose perspective on how niche you are. All those dramatic teen emotions making you feel like the galaxy revolves around you. So cute! Never grow up, never never grow up!

    Dear Nylon,

So glad you liked our web show. We will make sure to include you in future episodes, once we finish “reviewing” Vogue, Elle and others. Meanwhile you can find more “Fashion For Thought” goodness here – http://MyItThings.com/FashionForThought

    xoxo

    Dear Nylon & Nylon Readers,
As Yuli expressed above, I’m happy that you found our video and enjoyed it – you totally got that we love fashion and magazines, and that our “critique” is meant to be light-hearted and a little silly. We try to bring our own thoughts and opinions to the spreads and features of each issue we review, instead of naively gobbling up every fashion, health, and beauty suggestion. Some won’t like our opinions, but that’s okay, we’ll keep doing our thing, and for those who enjoy it, thanks for watching!
