Hey Poppy: We Double Dare You

  • December 17th, 2008

Tonight, I met Poppy King, an idol of mine for starting Poppy lipsticks, Prescriptives Cosmetics, and lately, the Lipstick Queen makeup series.

She introduced me to an under-the-radar invention of hers, the matte lip gloss.

“I call it Oxymoron,” she winked, “Because nobody thought a matte gloss could exist.”

(In fact, the product is true to its title – it spreads a muted, opaque color over the lips without being glittery or shiny, kind of like Audrey Hepburn’s beguiling lips in Roman Holiday).

Poppy came up with a few names for her Oxymoron colors, including “Honest Politician” and “Minor Crisis.”

Yeah, okay, but she doesn’t have a really red shade, and she also doesn’t use my clique’s favorite phrase from high school:  “F*cking Virgin.”

So I dared her to do it:  Make a new, vampire-red shade, and stick that title on the label.

Poppy said, “That’s a really good idea!”  Uh huh.  I’m waiting, Poppy… xo faran
