At Rodarte, A Leg Up
Besides being prohibitively expensive, Rodarte’s dresses are often… well, odd. If you’ve got hips, a butt, or even breasts, it’s hard to make their ultra-constructed, abstract-seamed outfits work on your body.
(Witness the only celebrity in yesterday’s front row, Kirsten Dunst, who’s a poster child of the pixie-d, winsome waif. We dare Angelina or Kate Winslet – or Rodarte’s curvier designers, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, to try and wear the same thing).
But a universal Rodarte love is their legwear – last season, it was lace tights, the season before, a pair of webbed, shredded cashmere fishnets that made you basically cry, because they were that good.
This time around, Rodarte didn’t disappoint in that area, giving us gray and black leather legs wrapped tightly like bandages.
But of course, there was a trick:
This time, the leggings were actually thigh-high boots.
And whomever can get their hands on them is officially a new NYLON hero. OMG amazing.

I usually try to keep my mind open, especially considering fashion, but this looks horrid. The boots look wrapped in duct tape… Even though I’m an avid D.I.Y.er I would never create anything that resembles duct tape. Rodarte, you’ve let me down.

Don’t like them. In the fashion world it is ok I guess.. but to wear on the streets? don’t think so

i saw these images from the NYFW09 Rodarte show. i died.
i think the dresses are just as epic as the stylized boots but unfortunately, the boots stole the show. le sigh.
i want. i want. i want.
