Hear Me Now: Cotton Jones
Example #783,501 that you don’t need to live in NYC or LA to make good music: Cotton Jones.
The duo, born out of a tiny mountain town in Maryland, sings about – yes – small town things (like, uh, chickens), but they also inject a dark dreaminess into their music that satisfies even the grittiest of city-dwellers.
Which is why Paranoid Cocoon is my favorite new release of the week (just came out on vinyl, CD is already out!). From the thumping bass notes that open “Up A Tree” to the organ droning over sleigh bells and circling guitar lines in “Photo Summerlove” there’s a quaint beauty to Cotton Jones. It’s one part hazy psychedelia, one part upbeat country, and all-around perfect for lazy Sundays (or Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays…).
Don’t miss the band during their cross-country tour – and definitely don’t miss “Gotta Cheer Up”, which gives a modern spin on The Doors’ ’60s style with a guy-girl harmony. Hello, I love you, indeed…xxRebecca
