Are you in a far-away place with tons of street art?  Send it to me:  faran@nylonmag.com

And yes, Indiana and North Dakota count as a “far-away place.”

Glam Never Dies

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Behold the site of 17-year-old Tanya Dziahileva backstage at Julien McDonald.

Her makeup is bare, but the dress is outrageous:

Lucite panels, netting, beading, and out-of-control shininess.

Ironically, this might be the quickest evening look you can get:

When your dress does all the work, all you need is hairspray, a quick swipe of foundation, and Chap Stick.

Of course, you’ll need to walk in daggered stilettos, too.

But that’s just part of the bargain, isn’t it?

It’s My Party, And…

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

If you follow our Twitter, you know this Saturday was Cory Kennedy’s birthday party.

The NYLON mascot (muse?) turned nineteen, with a giant bash at Above Allen, the new club at the Thompson LES Hotel.

Among the revelers were Mark the Cobra Snake, Alexandra Richards, Charlotte Ronson and her sister (and mascot and muse!) Annabelle Dexter Jones, and Cory’s awesome mom, Jinx Kennedy.

Ed Westwick also showed up, but I was too shy to tell him about the Chuck Bass pickup line contest.  Instead I just said “hi” and then basically skipped all the way home.

Check out the rest of the night below.  xo faran

Marc by Marc: Always a Classic

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

A lot of you remarked this model’s dress at Aquascutum looks like Marc by Marc Jacobs.

That’s because it IS Marc by Marc Jacobs!

She’s wearing it backstage, in full hair and makeup, before getting changed into her actual Aquascutum outfit.

I’ll admit, even I was confused at first, but it seems even a year later, Marc by Marc dresses remain a classic.

Which must be why I keep buying them, and going totally broke because of it.

But it’s classic.  So it’s worth it!  Um… right?

Kristen Stewart and Christopher Kane: One of these things is not like the other (even though she’s wearing his dress!).

“Dear Faran,

I stumbled across this when I was lost in a back street of Hackney, London and wondered how on earth they got up there?!

So I just HAD to take a Holga of it!

lots of love,

You’ve Got To Give To Get…Free Music

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Speaking of catchy pop music, El Perro Del Mar just announced that she’s got a mini-album coming out in April. It’s called – yes – Love Is Not Pop.

I’d have to disagree with her on that sentiment, but I can’t argue with anything about the lead single, “Change of Heart”.

The bass line is amazing, but listen to the lyrics and it’s clear that Sarah Assbring is just as sad as ever. Not sad in a bad way, like From The Valley To The Stars, but sad in a good way, like El Perro Del Mar – just trade out some of that ’60s twee sound for some ’7os Fleetwood Mac-ness.

You can listen to it right here, right now, free of charge. xxRebecca
