Tag! I’ll Tell You What I Want, What I Really Really Want

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Ciao Faran,

Last Wednesday I was having the worst day imaginable, but thankfully I’ve blocked all memories of exactly why it was so horrible. Instead of bitching, I grabbed my Canon and hit the pavement. That’s when I saw the blue doors. Being naturally curious, I peered inside the opening and saw words that I am sure were spray painted there by a Spice Girl. The subtle graffiti wasn’t out there like other street art I’ve seen in New York, but it still made an impression on me beyond the, “Oh look at the graffiti. It’s so pretty.” It motivated me for the next 12 hours. It made me want to listen to “Wannabe.” And it made me smile. And that day, a smile was all I really needed.

The Gold Shoe Diaries

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Impromptu photo shoots happen a lot in the NYLON office.

Today’s went like this:

Faran: OMG, you have the new gold Louboutins?

Molly: Yes, but we’re not shooting them.

Faran: Ooh, what if I shoot them? I can do a gold shoe roundup.

Molly: Awesome.

Faran: Can I steal your intern to model? And do you think Marvin will mind if I take his skateboard?

Molly: Go for it.

And five minutes later, we’re shooting a spread on Spring Street. The outtakes are below. Lust over the shoes at your own risk. xoxo faran.

So Worth Helmet Hair…

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Eley Kishimoto has its very own motorcycle helmet. Now all you need is a customized Vespa.

Television Dreams Of Tomorrow…

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

The original rock musical, Hair, is finally opening back up on Broadway tonight.

We’d be there, if it weren’t for NYLON’s 10th birthday party (woo!).

And we’d also scoop up tickets to American Idiot, if it weren’t for NYLON’s east coast HQ.

Yes, Green Day’s album-turned-rock opera is finally seeing the light of day. The curtain won’t rise until September, but tickets are on sale right now for the Berkeley Rep show. In place of moshing, expect a 19-person strong cast led by director Michael Mayer (of Spring Awakening fame). Not to mention punk-pop classics from Mr. Billie Joe Armstrong.

Theater nerds and music geeks, unite!

Chuck Bass Wears a Skirt

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Though I am not Scottish, or even Anglo Saxon, I was asked by the Friends of Scotland to help judge their Dressed to Kilt party last night.

Basically, it’s a scotch-drenched fashion show where celebrities take the runway in skirts, and reporters like me rate them on a scale of 1-3.

Very Olympic, you see.

The show featured Glasvegas, Mike Myers, Andie McDowell and her two gorgeous daughters, and Chuck Bass.

Chuck Bass in a skirt blowing kisses to the camera.

Well, it’s no secret that I could barely control myself, but eventually, something did excite me more than Ed Westwick:

Three Vivienne Westwood kilts, complete with three pairs of Vivienne Westwood stilettos, that basically rocked the entire night. Click through for pictures of everything, even Mike Myers.

Tag! Brazilia

Monday, March 30th, 2009

“Hi Faran,

This is graffiti I found in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, when I was there a couple of weeks ago.  Hope you can use it in the blog!

xo

Thien-Y”

Amazing, so colorful.  Also kind of reminds me of the Damien Hirst skateboards we wrote about today.

If you have graffiti, send it to faran@nylonmag.com

You Know You Love Them

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Tonight on Gossip Girl, it’s Little J’s sixteenth birthday.

Of course, The MisShapes (that’s 2/3 of them, at left) are DJing.

Tune in to see the kids in action, and if you really want to root for them, sing that part of the Jem! theme song from the ’80s:

We Are the MisShapes.

Our Band is Better.

Okay, yeah, it’s supposed to be the Misfits, but really, isn’t this more fun?

Break a leg Geordon, Greg, and Leigh!
