The Soda in Texas is Different
Tweet
I always thought Big Red was just a gum.
Then today, I saw it on a truck in Austin, Texas as a soda.
The can says it’s been around since 1937, and yet, I have never seen it in my life.
So Texas girls, help me out:
What is “red soda,” what does it taste like, and where do you buy it… besides on the hoods of trucks at a concert?

I moved here not too long ago, and I was intrigued by it too. It’s kind of like a red cream soda, but there’s also supposed to be kind of an orangey flavor to it. You can also get it in blue, but it’s much harder to find.

Big Red can usually be found in gas stations, grocery stores, and the occasional restaurant. I have grown up with it so it doesn’t even phase me now. I don’t like the taste because to me it tastes like medicine.
On another note…I have been looking for you at SXSW!!

That’s the best tasting soda! It’s kind of an undescribable flavor, sort of like cream soda with some strawberry. It goes best with a bean and cheese taco.

I think they have it in the mid-west and south. I can remember my neighbor’s dad (who was a truck driver) bringing him loads of it from Illinois, maybe? They would stock up whenever they could. Kind of like me and Yuengling lager. If you see that down there, have some! I mean, what were we talking about, soda?

Speaking of different sodas & the south. The best is: SUN DROP, which can only be found in Tennessee as far as I know. It’s the best drink ever.

do NOT even mention Big Red to San Antonio folks. It’s the equivalent to the need of 8 ounces of water per day- only red and carbonated. You should have done the mad decent parties. There were peeps who looks straight out of Nylon jumping on the walls.

Big Red tastes like Bubble Gum and is supposed to be had with BBQ. infact that’s really the only thing (other then beer) that one should drink with BBQ.
Fanta Red is prob the only other thing out there that tastes like it.
any other time us Southern/Texas girls drink Dr. Pepper…

Oh man, I remember when I first had it in Ohio, right when I had White Castle for the first time, too. It tastes just like blue cream soda, and I found it in the grocery store the other day and I died of happiness – I live in California!

Well I just bought my 1st bottle at Walmart. I live in Northern California’s Napa, so it definitely is a soda that gets around. People are all saying different things about its taste, such as an orange cream soda, or something with strawberries, but i feel it has a much different taste. I feel it tastes of a bubble gum flavored medicine you get from the doctors. Although i like the medicine, I think it will take my taste buds some time to adjust to the flavor of the soda, as my first glass of it almost resulted in me throwing up. It is quite the unique flavor of soda, and I wont give up on actually growing to like it.

Hello!
Another newbie here. I’ve joined on the recommendation of a friend on here. Looks like there are lots of interesting threads.
I love gardening and messing about with the camera so you should see me joining in with those for starters.
