Shruti Goes to a Gallery
A few days ago I went to the opening exhibition for Jean-Marc Gady at Gallery R’Pure – a space reputed to host cutting-edge and narrative design works.
With ‘French Cancan’ – A circular outline of pleated lampshades, and his A.M.O. vase that ‘plays with imbalance and illusion’, Jean-Marc takes ordinary household objects and creates them into bold statement pieces that create a new dialogue about composition and movement. I particularly enjoyed Gady’s ‘Gourmet Plate’, a series of connected flat circular surfaces – as if the larger plate had blossomed from its nodes. The various contents of a bento-box could be elegantly placed and garnished on this plate, adding a new level of elegance to even the simplest shumai.
A former art director (for display windows and events) for Louis Vuitton, Gady is a design talent one should watch.
The exhibition runs from March 25th until May 19th.
