Tag! Fire for Hire
“Hi Faran,
Just wanted to share this pic with you!
It’s of NYC street artist Ellis G practicing a new obsession of his – fire tagging!
Elisa”
Okay, this is officially amazing.
If you’ve seen any fire tagging, or know how to do it, or just want to share some non-exploding graffiti, email faran@nylonmag.com

I used to do this in my bedroom (on the walls) as a teenager back in the 80s. I used hair spray, and gel worked too. I think the best material for writing and having the least amount of drip is to use sterno. It will scorch the walls and leave some carbon residue on the ceiling and really piss off your dad when he finds out. I think he was more mad about the proliferation of graffiti made permanent markers and spray paint. Spray paint is flammable too, of course. I guess it depends on the look you are going for.

Fantástico!
like action painting, an action graffiti or inflamable graffiti!
where is it exposed/put fire?

Because ordinary graffiti just isn’t destructive enough.

Wow, how original… Remember that shit movie Daredevil? Ben Affleck leaves one of ‘flaming’ tags for the cops. You know you’ve achieved something when you rip off Affleck.

Wow, you REALLY know you’re lame when you’ve sat through Daredevil. And hate on flaming graffiti, “taint-rad”.
And yes, there’s a few spots around Brooklyn (Bed Stuy, Flatbush, Washington Heights) where I’ve seen this, mostly AStar and Chew tags. kind of the opposite of moss tagging.

@TANRAD!: I think it was done in “The Crow” before Daredevil….and probably even before that. This is far from “new”

I am sure pretty soon we will read of some awful tragedy with this tagging technique. But maybe just to avoid problems, bring along KATSU so he can put off the fire with his own contraption. Seriously, it looks gorgeous but someone is going to get hurt and it better not be my house, wife and kid while we sleep.

This is excellent. I hate these taggers so much that I seriously hope they burn themselves up… then those assholes will be permanently tagged too.
“Yo! Carlos why you all burnt up man?”
“It’s a tag homes.”

Seriously?

Funny, I live above Alphabeta in Greenpoint where Ellis G is all the time. I see them firetagging all the time with the used-up spent canisters trying to get any last juice out of them. it’s fun to watch, but the results aren’t particularly amazing…
