The Insider Mini: Julia Seltzer
To the left is a necklace designed by 22-year old Julia Seltzer, a recent graduate of Pratt Institute.
At the school’s senior exhibit, I was drawn into the way Julia incorporated “natural” elements into her pieces, leaving them slightly rough and not cookie-cutter perfect.
And with the call for “going green” being very prevalent nowadays, this New Jersey native has found a unique way to blend the ideas of sustainability and nature into incredible jewelry!

“My inspirations range from nature and its persistence to urban development and traditional and ancient adornment. For this collection I was mainly inspired by a recent trip to Southeast Asia where I spent a lot of time admiring the intricacy and devotion put into the Buddhist temples.”

“I definitely narrowed my theme and pallet of materials, techniques and colors. Pyrite, rose gold plating and silver filigree are definitely elements that I am attracted to but there are many other themes and materials that I am eager to explore.”
“I have always had this need to create and I always knew that I would go to art school but I sort of just fell into jewelry. I had a tendency to work on a smaller scale and I loved the practicality and possibilities within jewelry so it made a lot of sense that I was so attracted to it.”
