Simple Pleasures

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

In Simple Shoes’ first life, it was a skate-inspired brand peddling clunky sneakers to ’90s mall rats.

But the ’90s came and went and the footwear company began to question just what it was doing. After some serious soul searching, Simple ditched the attitude, embraced sustainability, and started designing some seriously cool eco-friendly shoes.

Like the surf-inspired shoes from its summer mini-collection.

Featuring color-saturated snapshots by photographer Joe Curren, the sneakers are made of certified cotton, recycled plastic bottles, and recycled car tires. Only problem? You’ll be torn between wearing them all summer long and kicking them off for a day at the beach…Check them out here.

Lohan Leggings For Less

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

If you want to look like Lindsay Lohan, even a little bit, there’s some hope:

Her much-hyped leggings line, 6126, just went on major sale at Nordstrom.

By “major,” I mean, “These things were $110, and now they’re $44.”

Also:

6126 is Marilyn Monroe’s birthdate.

It’s not to be confused with 2812, the kinda-maybe-sorta birthdates of Sienna and Savannah Miller, whose clothing line bears that numerical name.

Buy Lindsay’s leggings here!

It’s time for our annual music issue, and now that you’ve got 22 free songs from iTunes, you’ll need something to blare them.

You might want to try this little guy – the Speakal iPanda – for that.

He’s about six inches tall, and comes with 25 watts of high quality sound. 5 speakers, a 4 inch subwoofer, touch volume controls, a remote control, and a custom bass control.

Speakal says the Panda has “extensive compatibility with iPod products,” which means no drama with your Nano or iPhone.

And it’s just so cute.

Buy him online for $129.99

Or make your boyfriend do that for you.

Jeremy Scott x Adidas x NY Times

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

This weekend’s On the Street column by Bill Cunningham is all about menswear.

He features gold oxfords, teal blazers, and a little bit of guyliner.

The one nod to streetwear?

This shot of Jeremy Scott’s  crazy, coveted sneakers by Adidas.

They’re currently on eBay for about $300.

But don’t worry – the NYLON Nikes, which retail for under $100, hit shelves next week :)

Fresh Samantha

Way obsessed with Samantha Ronson’s Twitter background -

A series of illustrated Bearbricks showing the California DJ as a toy.

Samantha’s Twitters are pretty cool too, because she shares her new favorite bands at least three months before anyone else even knows about them.

In fact, Samantha’s mix tapes for her sister, the designer Charlotte Ronson, were how we discovered Vampire Weekend, Adele, and The Virgins.

You can follow Sam here.
