“Dear Faran,
I took my scooter to Long Island City this weekend, and found this graffiti, which was pretty sweet.
It’s right behind the giant Pepsi Cola sign that you can see from the river in Manhattan.
Does it ever bug you that Long Island isn’t actually an island? And that Long Island City isn’t even in Long Island?
Just wondering.
–Ben.”
Hey Ben – no, that doesn’t bug me, but the fact that Greenland is very icy, and Iceland is very green – that drives me crazy.
If you have graffiti, send it over! faran@nylonmag.com

(Can you see the Pepsi sign?)

hey. i live on long island. i’m pretty sure it’s an island. i mean.. it’s surrounded by water.. i don’t get what you’re saying. how is it not an island? have i been lied to all my life? what? does this have anything to do with how it was formed by a glacier? is that why it’s not an island? does an island have to be made from a volcano? someone please explain.

nice to see an LIC shoutout! i’m born & raised in LIC and no, it’s never bothered me. but over the years people have always thought i lived on long island when i tell them i’m from long island city. by the way, that wall mural is from recycle-a-bicycle’s LIC workshop. cheers!
