Good Idea or Bad Idea: This Dress
NYLON reader Jennica Johnstone facebooked us this morning to say she’d found a dress on Etsy that was “So NYLON.”
Yeah, could be.
Could also be “So Halloween.”
The dress, called “My Little Unicorn Tunic” was made by Devaniwear, a label based in Arizona.
It sells for $75 on Etsy.
But is it a cool party statement?
Or something to hide away until October 31?
Let us know…

Wow, this is a no. It’s really creepy
July 17th, 2009 at 10:39 am
So Halloween.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Bjork-ish!
July 17th, 2009 at 10:42 am
I think this is a little too cheesy for NYLON. The pink hair is just too much for me.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:42 am
i think you better keep this one for halloween. the pink hair hanging is kinda freaky
July 17th, 2009 at 10:43 am
Bad. I don’t think the shape of it would be flattering on anyone.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:44 am
That pink hair killed that tunic.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:45 am
i LOVE it!
but i’m not positive it’s “so NYLON”…
it might be able to fit in somewhere (:
July 17th, 2009 at 10:46 am
I don’t like the fact that the dress is white and so is the unicorn. If the dress was a different color, or even fabric it might look better. As it is now it looks as if someone turned a children’s blanket into a dress.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:46 am
Halloween!!! Most definitely!!
July 17th, 2009 at 10:48 am
Definitely save this one for Halloween.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Me not like it so much, it’s a bit too much… how much I do like MLP though…
July 17th, 2009 at 10:52 am
HORRIBLE
July 17th, 2009 at 10:54 am
I picture this dress on a 5-8 year old little girl. Although unicorns were my favorite “animal” growing up, I associate them with childhood. Maybe that is what the Nylon staff is going for. Either way I think the dress is not flattering or empowering for a grown women to wear. <3 Try something edgier and less cupcake powder puff.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:56 am
maybe in a funky photo shoot but not for the streets.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:00 am
lma0. i like it.. its different && hott.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:03 am
whoa COOL! can I have one for free?
July 17th, 2009 at 11:09 am
HMMMMMM!
you know what…..damn, gimmie a minute….because I have to look again, just to see if it’s the manipulation of the picture, Shorty’s body or the ‘My Little Pony’ Synthetic hair that’s running off to the side!….but either way, this dress COULD very well be Nylon, with a few things removed and added.
ADDED:
* taller, slimmer, caramel-chocolate toned body (like MOI!)
* Judith Leiber sequined purse (as seen in Mass Appeal: Katy Perry page 054)
REMOVED:
* the WEAVE!!
July 17th, 2009 at 11:12 am
im sorry… looks like she’s wearing a beach towel from Wal*Mart.
maybe for halloween… this dress with some knee high Doc Martens and a tophat… or some tall gladiator boots…
July 17th, 2009 at 11:13 am
As much as I love unicorns…this is a bad idea.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:17 am
Wtf ? That’s not even worth pullinq out for Halloween . Ew .
July 17th, 2009 at 11:17 am
hide it, and fast too !
a bit too tacky for NYLON i’d say.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:18 am
neither nor…BURN it…quick!!!!
July 17th, 2009 at 11:19 am
this is creepy…and needs to go bye bye…no nylon dress…no way

July 17th, 2009 at 11:23 am
funny idea!
July 17th, 2009 at 11:27 am
This is a NO NO. It’s even a No NO for hallowen. It’s just awful and tasteless.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:32 am
Its cute…~<3
but not for Nylon… its cute for costume party or kids.. ^^
July 17th, 2009 at 11:36 am
definitely a very bad idea!
July 17th, 2009 at 11:50 am
Not chill enough for Nylon, it has no real concept, plus it’s creepy.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:53 am
While it is an interesting idea for a dress, the fabric choices and the pink hair make it seem very cheap! I think it is a bit to literal and costume-esque looking for NYLON.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Its delightfully tacky, and if one has the guts to rock it, it would be a bold move at a party! (the hair should go though)
July 17th, 2009 at 11:57 am
Not Nylon at all, what was that e-mailer thinking?
July 17th, 2009 at 11:58 am
haha I agree with Robb’s statement above-it looks like a towel from Wal-Mart for sure. There is still something I like about it though…maybe it’s the childhood memories of playing with my little ponies.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
The concept its cool! the execution its lacking for me. I think it looks cheap and not very well made, the white fabric… just doesn’t make it interesting, u need to pair the Unicorn with something more bold to make it edgy. It’s a good sketch, it can be improved on
Not NYLON Worthy!
July 17th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Um. AWESOME.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
not a good look. I wouldn’t want to brush my dress.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
UGGGH! this dress is definitely NOT Nylon… at least not in my opinion. It should be saved for the sale bin in the back corner of a resale shop… if even there.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
This is going to be harsh but…This dress is in such poor taste….it looks like it came out of a “mommy and me” dress up bin, why is just anyone with an idea allowed to sell awful clothing to unsuspecting buyers? Desingers are supposed to make the world look beautiful, not tacky!!!
July 17th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
although this “dress” looks some what hopless its a good concept. the fabric is terible but it would make a good kitttchy dress bt not for the faint of heart mind you. if they put more time into it it could b a sucses.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
TRASH. TRASH. TRASH.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
I love it. It’s fabulously kitchy!!
July 17th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
maybe lisa frank worthy, but not nylon. its just a little too out there.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
Not for everyday, but it would make a rather eye-catching halloween costume…
July 17th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
I think with the right styling it could be fun. Like with ripped leggings, a sweet jean jacket or something, some doc martins, and a model with that dead bleached hair…..It could work. Making it really grundgie would turn it into irony, which is so tre hip.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
this is going to give me bad dreams!! it’s terrifying!
July 17th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
I think if we want to make unicorns a fashion trend, we’d have to start small. A little graphic here, a pin there..I’m not so much into the body hugging, white fabric with a life- sized unicorn applique, not to mention the flowing pink hair spewing from the side.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
uhh it is not very flattering on that the model’s body.
as someoe said, the concept is cool but it looks so cheap and unflattering.
July 17th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
I kind of love it lol
July 17th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
as a arizonan i am ashame of this dress! lol. eeew!
July 17th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Like everyone else, I wouldn’t hesitate to rip off the pink crap. But I would wear that to a party. It makes a wacky, kinda cutesy, kinda crazy, statement.
But you know what would make it cooler? The big anime eye is a little tooo cutesey for some. Maybe if it were a little creepier/unique it would be worn to events other than Halloween bashes.
July 17th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
i completely agree with a few others in saying.. if you take the pink hair off, and add a bit more color or boldness, then it would definitely be something “nylon” would wear. i think the idea is awesome, it just could be a little bit more well made
July 17th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
so fug, so tacky, so not nylon. ew
July 17th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
umm…not even for halloween. it should just be burned
July 17th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
I must admit that it is a little strange but I’m sure it was made for a fashion show ar something. Check out the rest of her stuff on Etsy. A lot of it is actually pretty neat. http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7170252
July 17th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
I would honestly rock a unicorn dress, but not that one. The pink hair in the seam is too much, and the shape itself is unflattering but otherwise I love the kitchy eccentricity of it, and the unicorn itself is very cute. I like the idea just not the execution.
July 17th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Really?… this dress is horrible.
July 17th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
hide away… possibly burn.
lol.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Oooo… it’s like the sweater your mom dressed you in during the 90’s…
July 18th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
do they know its Halloween?
July 19th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
bleeehtiful
July 20th, 2009 at 11:50 am
This reminds me of Bjork’s swan dress. I’m not opposed to it, but only certain people could pull it off. I do love Etsy for all of the unusual things you can find there. Check out http://www.navare.etsy.com for unusual jewelry made from vintage and found objects.

AHHHHH
scared me.
disgusting.
August 3rd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
I love the unicorn and the dress… but the pink hair? It’s a little much. …but shoot… if you can rock it, then rock it
August 9th, 2009 at 7:59 am
eeeerrr… nope. just too scare to wear
