The Comeback Kid
The big news this week wasn’t that Nathan Williams from Wavves freaked out onstage, canceled his European tour, or broke his wrist while skateboarding.
Rather, it was his impressive comeback at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom.
It was his first show since the much blogged about drug-fueled breakdown in Spain, and everyone wondered how the lo-fi wunderkind would do.
Turns out, clean this kid up and he still plays remarkably fun music. While there’s no doubt that Nathan was on his best behavior – see the Poland Spring-littered stage and the gracious banter – cleaning up his act doesn’t really mess up his act. The songs were tight, the sound was good, and the audience? Loving every minute of it. From our balcony perch, we were a bit jealous of the kids moshing down below.
Moral of the story? Don’t write off Wavves just yet… xxRebecca
