Knit Wit

In the August issue of NYLON, Betsey Johnson says “homemade touches are the future of fashion.”

It seems Net-a-Porter is taking her literally, featuring new kits from Wool & The Gang that let you knit stylish scarves from their DIY collection.

What’s funny?

For the privilege of knitting a scarf from their materials, you pay $85.

Less than the cost of most scarves you didn’t make yourself -

But also, of course, less fun.

I believe DIY is the new wave, but also that the new wavve is true DIY - the kind that your actually do yourself from scratch, particularly when recycling old things and products into new! Saves the money and sometimes the planet.

  2. kristi Says:

Actually, it’s $150 on their website! That’s definitely ridiculous.

I am always up for a good DIY project, and personally i find this to be a very cute idea. The quality of the materials is questionable. Yes you pay $85 for basically the name brand, but if the wool is no better then ones you can get at a craft store then this is pointless. If the package were to come with cute little bobbles, tassels, or unique colors then maybe i could be on board. With all these unanswered questions its a stretch for me.

i think the overall idea of DIY is a great idea, i know i’ve really been getting into it lately. however, that price is ridiculous when you can buy yarn & knitting needles at a local craft store for about 20 bucks at the most.

as a graphic design major, just let me say, i love the packaging for this product. it’s so sleek and simple. and i love diy… but $85? i’m not so sure about that.

DIY is great but $150 is insane… knitting needles are $10 and a pound of yarn is less. DYI by going to the store and picking this stuff up.

Everyone said it already! I would like to learn knitting though!:)

    DIY is great.
but with that price tag i could make like 100 scarves (not literally!)
you could just borrow from people you know or you know buy cheaply :)

EDITOR’S NOTE: THIS COMMENT WAS LEFT FROM THE SAME COMPUTER AS THE LAST COMMENT, WHICH ALSO PRAISED THE PRODUCT JUST UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME.

Just to let you know DIY project are always more expensive than cloths sold in multinational factories. What I like with wool and the gang is that environmentally speaking they are amazing! I can’t believe the lack of knowledge of some claims mentioned above…

I can’t imagine anyone who knows how to knit already will pay for the privilege of having their yarn and needles picked out for them and sent in a snazzy box for $85.

If someone is already experienced, they will know how cheaply you can buy nice yarn, especially online, and they will probably already have some needles they like.

The colors they have available look awesome though, I may have to take inspiration there.

Last two comments are completely transparent and hilarious…

    Hello,
It’s our first time on the Nylon blog and we take all your feedback into consideration.

It’s great for us to hear that you like our concept, packaging, styles and colours, since it’s all part of long design and sourcing process.
It’s more than just yarn (100% Peruvian wool, Pima cotton and soon Baby Alpaca) and wooden needles. We’re also trying to improve our environment credentials all the time.

We love knitting and we hope to get more and more people knitting around the world. Not necessarily people knitting our products - you don’t need to buy a kit to watch our free video tutorials and get easily started! We basically aim at making it simple for beginners.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at info@woolandthegang.com, we’ll be happy to receive photos of your work to post on the Blog and share your passionate knitting experience!

    Thank you
    Lili
