If We Wrote Gossip Girl

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Blair: I mean really, Vanessa, there’s such a difference between “like” and “love.”

Vanessa: Yeah.

Blair: I mean, I like my Sketchers, but I love my Chloe Tilia Sunglasses.

Vanessa: But I love my Sketchers.

Blair: That’s because you don’t have Chloe Tilia Sunglasses .

Vanessa: Oh!

Blair: By the way, when did we become friends? Aren’t we in, like, some perpetual Nate Archibald feud?

Vanessa: It’s Season 3. Serena and Dan have a brother who goes to NYU with you, and they don’t even know about him yet. Meanwhile, Little J’s eyeliner refuses to wash off, and I think Chuck is dating Eric Van Der Woodsen. So I think we have bigger problems here.

Tokyo Milk Does the Body Good

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Oh Tokyo Milk…

First you put out adorable perfumes like “I Want Candy” and “Dead Sexy”.

Then you released matching lip balms, followed by travel size soaps.

We thought you couldn’t top yourself. Turns out, we were wrong.

Now you’ve got candles, bubble bath, and - yes - even greeting cards, all inspired by vintage graphics and our favorite fragrances. And we want it all.

What’s next? Lip gloss? Face wash? Bedsheets?!?

Can I Get That in Writing?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Some very talkative sweaters have popped up this week on Net-a-Porter.

Clockwise from top left:

“Darling” by Sonia Rykiel

“Fashion” by Bella Freud

“Love” by Markus Lupfer

“Jane” by Bella Freud.

The sweaters cost about $400 each, though we imagine when the more mass-market lines come out in September, they’ll include similar say-something tops.

For instance, we know TopShop has a great white and orange sweater that screams “horror” or “scream” or  something like that.

You can also pick up the embroidery book that Ariane mentioned a few months ago, and just do it yourself.

Plenti Good

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

It seems like just  yesterday that Interpol’s Paul Banks announced that he had a side project, called Julian Plenti (less a band than an alter-ego).

But here we are, a few months later, and the album Julian Plenti Is…Skyscraper is finally out.

Okay, yeah, it sounds a lot like Interpol (mixed with, of all things, Wolf Parade). But that’s not a bad thing…

Find out for yourself here - the album is streaming for free on Rhapsody.com.

Converse x Woolrich

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Just in time for Fall, a new collaboration you’re guaranteed to want:

Converse’s partnership with Woolrich!

The sneaker icon created two plaid high-tops with rubber-tracked souls with the outdoor clothing company, which began making outfits in 1830 (and continued to wardrobe customers during the Civil War, Westward expansion, and the Bush years).

The coolest part about these shoes are they’re waterproof, so if you hate snow boots and galoshes, these could be a really cool alternative.

Tag! Kate

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

“Dear Faran,

Do you know what’s up with the Kate Moss fliers all over the city?

They’re like half Kate Moss and half Jesus.

I’ve tried to read them but they’re too high up so I took a picture instead.

Let me know if it’s some weird clothing campaign that I just can’t figure out, ok?

–Jess”

Falafel!

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

CNN iReport is the Citizen Journalist section of the network, where people around the world write in with their experiences and photographs.

Sometimes, like with the Iran election protests, those reports were serious, courageous, and sad.

But other times, they’re just crazy.

Like today, when CNN iReport features falafels around the world.

Read after you’ve had lunch - otherwise, beware the cravings…

Blood In the Afternoon

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

We just got a bottle of True Blood delivered to our office.

Much like Jessica in Season 2, Episode 1, we proclaimed it “Weird!”

Or more specifically:

“It tastes like carbonated Kool Aid.”

So we’ll stick to Bloody Marys or Clamatos when pretending to be Sookie Stackhouse, but still.

A for effort.

And the bottle looks bad-ass.

See more of our True Blood recaps here!

Knit Wit

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

In the August issue of NYLON, Betsey Johnson says “homemade touches are the future of fashion.”

It seems Net-a-Porter is taking her literally, featuring new kits from Wool & The Gang that let you knit stylish scarves from their DIY collection.

What’s funny?

For the privilege of knitting a scarf from their materials, you pay $85.

Less than the cost of most scarves you didn’t make yourself -

But also, of course, less fun.
