Easy to Be Hard

Before Hard Candy was an Ellen Page film, a Madonna album, and a song by Counting Crows (yes, occasionally we admit the Countin Crows exist), it was a nail polish from Dina Mohajer.

The med student turned manicure guru started her own business from a dorm room, then transformed it into a ’90s success story, and a major fad - Did you have light blue nails in high school?  Did everybody else?

Hard Candy made guest appearances on MTV’s House of Style, and on David Letterman, when Alicia Silverstone appeared at his famous desk sporting pastel nails with her perfect hair.

Now Hard Candy is poised to make another appearance - at Wal Mart.  The brand just signed a deal to trade in its $12 bottles of lacquer for a new look, a discount price, and a fresh slew of fans across the country.

But will they still make the blue nail polish we know and love?  Stay tuned.

Oh, Wal*Mart takes the romance out of everything and anything…but mass produced Hard Candy could bring cupcake blue nails out for a much-deserved comeback!

What I remember most is the matching plastic ring that would come with the polish. I coveted the matching fingernail polish/plastic ring combo with my entire middle-school heart.

What’s the deal with you guys hating on Counting Crows? They are far better than most of the mediocre artists you feature in your mag.

Also, I think it’s a nifty idea to have Hard Candy at Wal-Mart. I love buying makeup from there and Hard Candy brings back fond 90s memories for me.

I’ve noticed recently that your blog titles are often titles of songs from HAIR.

    Peace and Love.
