Lina Goes to The Debbie Harry + Pat Benatar Concert on Coney Island

“Pat Benatar and Blondie got a nice crowd (and not only of middle aged women) at Coney Island and the rock goddesses didn’t disappoint anyone.

Their performances struck as strong, powerful, melodious and fun.

Pat Benatar grew her hair long (and doesn’t wear a unitard anymore), but she looked fresh and earthy in a black tunic and lots of jewelry. She still has a real rock chick’s voice and gives all of herself to the crowd.  It was a moment of unity in the audience when everyone was singing “Love Is a Battlefield,” “Heartbreaker,” and “We Belong.”

“You can sing this one”, she said about “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”  And we did.

Then Debbie Harry came out on stage with sunglasses, a trench coat and a pair of sneakers. First acting a bit nonchalant, Debbie soon lost her coat and coldness, dancing around in a short slip (that’s what I want to wear onstage when I’m 60!), making everybody move on “The Tide is High”, “Rapture”, “Maria”, and “Call Me.” She seduced fans again and again with her softer than expected voice, half rapping and improvising.

She finished, of course, with “Heart of Glass”, but the best bit was the following musical medley, which bursted into… “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough” by Michael Jackson. Nice way to end the concert, Blondie!

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
