Saddle shoes. An ex-bf who I have continued, after our break-up, to love from a far. A vision of the past that now haunts my dreams. A new obsession.
These days, saddle shoes are all I see–in ads, fashion spreads, and on cute girls and boys. I had an awesome pair from Payless Shoes when I was 8 years old that I wore everywhere. In my OshKosh-B-Gosh jumper and frilly socks, I would run through the playground in those shoes, hissing at boys, frolicking with other girls who rocked LA Gear trainers instead. And when that pair gave out, I vowed to woo my mother into getting me a new pair. Never did happen. The trend is on its way out, I’m sure, but to me, saddle shoes will always have a place in my closet. Here are some of my faves. –Diane

5. Urban Outfitters can do no wrong these days, especially not with these Bass Saddle Oxfords
6. F-Troupe’s funky, perforated version
