The Ting Tings Take America, Pt. 3

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The latest update from The Ting Tings’ tour bus, courtesy of Katie White:

 This is “THE RAMP”.

The ramp that we want to slide down on our knee’s so badly.

This is not our ramp.

It’s Pink’s ramp, and it would be unfair to do this.

Tag! The Mean Reds

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

“Dear Faran,

I saw this yesterday while on a college road trip in New Paltz, New York, with my cousin who went to school there.

I remembered to take a picture of it to send to NYLON!

Enjoy :D

-Alix T”

I wonder how long it took them to make that stencil.

And also, if you can still get Breakfast at Tiffany for $5 at iTunes…

If you have graffiti, send it along to faran@nylonmag.com

PS - You guys should read the book!  It’s such an amazing book!

Virtual Bag Check

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The folks at AOL’s Lemondrop wanted to know what NYLON Digital had inside their handbag.

So Digital Director Faran dumped hers out and told all.

Here’s what she’s got:

Marc by Marc Jacobs purple heels (From 2007. Yes, she knows it’s time to move on. She can’t.)

Lipstick Queen in red sinner.

PrivacyWear pink sunglasses.

Miu Miu handbag.

Apple iPhone featuring a bookmarked link to nylonmag!

Dandelion powder from BeneFit Cosmetics

A vintage wrap.

Not as glam as Dani’s usual pile of hotness, but a good start…

Take Your Pick

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Fun fact: In the UK, guitar pics are called “plectrums.”

And why do you need to know this?

Because Ben Sherman got about a hundred bands to sign and donate their plectrums for an auction that starts really soon.

Proceeds go to the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy program, or to a school in Singapore, and there are tons of cool musicians - like The Maccabes, Silversun Pickups, and Ryan Adams, whose pick is at left - to choose from.

Hit up Ben Sherman’s website to check the whole thing out!

Love the One You’re With

Has Alexander McQueen invented a new alternative to the Cartier Love Bracelet?

It might be so.

Check out this bangle from their Fall ‘09 collection.

It’s made from metal, with spikes melded straight into it.

Then they added a silver heart padlock with the McQueen logo stamped in the middle.

And just like the Cartier LOVE bracelet, this thing is a serious investment:

$1095 at Net-a-Porter

Meet The Parents

Did you know Hello Kitty has a mom and dad?

We didn’t either, until Sanrio’s Facebook page tipped us off.

Here’s Mary and George White.

She’s also got a big sister named Mimi.

Tag! A Tale of Two Cities

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

“The village , L.E.S. and Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Octavio”

Mysterious!

(And actually, I swapped the photos in the graphic -

Ecuador is at the top.

The East Village bathroom is at the bottom.)

See bigger photos of each sticker by clicking through.*

And if you have graffiti, send it along:

faran@nylonmag.com

*PS A certain intern referred to this sticker as “the vampire older brother of Patti Mayonnaise.”

But we think they’ve just been watching too much NYLON TV.

Hear Me Now: Cymbals Eat Guitars

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

A few curious things about the band Cymbals Eat Guitars:

1) The name.

I mean, what exactly would a cymbal eating a guitar look like? Or, really, what does it sound like? Because I certainly wouldn’t use that term to describe the band’s scream-pop sound.

2) The hometown.

Staten Island. I’ll repeat, Staten Island. While other bands flout their Brooklyn addresses, Cymbals Eat Guitars are proud to call the land that spawned Wu-Tang Clan and Fresh Kills landfill their home.

3) The album.

Why There Are Mountains was put out by the band a bit ago, but it finally gets a label release this week. We’re not sure why it took so long to get some love, but considering that they’re currently touring with Pains of Being Pure at Heart, it’s only a matter of time until the four-piece gets their due.

In the meantime, check out the band (and the album) here. xxRebecca
