Burberry Picks Up the Check

A few years ago, Burberry said it was seriously rethinking its signature plaid.

The pattern, which was infused on everything from scarves to skateboards, had been co-opted (and some might even say corrupted) by “chavs,” upwardly mobile British kids obsessed with looking rich, famous, and generally clueless.

In the celeb corner, the print once donned by Rachel Weisz and Kate Moss had shifted to Paris Hilton, Ashlee Tisdale, and Mariah Carey.

And so, Burberry “retired” the plaid, instead pushing belted metallic dresses, hardware-heavy handbags, and a general aesthetic of tough love - something that proved to be a huge hit on the runways, in stores, and of course on red carpets.

But Burberry just kept getting hotter (and hauter) and now, it seems, they don’t care what people think of their signature print.  So they’ve brought it back for Fall ‘09 in the form of these canvas trainers.

They’re $250, available now, and very, very plaid.

You know what that means - it’s safe to break out those Burberry rain boots from 3 years ago, and flaunt them again like the very first time!

As long as its not the tacky dress shirts, I see some guys wear. A person entire up body shouldn’t be covered in plaid. Now a subtle scarf, that a different story. What’s everyone else favorite Burberry plaid item?

It is the great shoes, however that’s too much. I believe there are more affordable shoes out there with the same quality.
