When I got to NYLON this morning, I found mysterious instructions awaiting me:

“Go to the UNION SQUARE DIESEL STORE ASAP and ask for MR. BARON and he will give you wristbands!”

My 1st thought: This is weird.
My 2nd thought: Maybe this has to do Diesel’s new raver-friendly label?
My final thought: Whoa, Diesel’s really raging these days.

Two subway stops later, I arrived at the Union Square location.  I spoke to three sales people and repeated the same line: “Hi, I’m Alexandra? I’m looking for Mr. Baron?  He’s supposed have wristbands?”

I received identical looks of hesitation from all.  So, when a “customer service” woman approached, I decided to change my tone.
“Hi, I’m from NYLON.  I need wristbands from Mr. Baron. And I’m in a hurry.”

I was instantly ushered downstairs, where I followed Ms. Customer Service to what appeared to the door dressing room.  She paused, took another close look at me, and said,   “Go through the dressing room and open the back door.  You’ll find Mr. Baron in there.  Oh, and by the way, I love NYLON.”

Doing my best to ignore all hesitations (What was this? Narnia? A Spike Jonze/ Punk’d collaboration?), I followed directions.

This is what I saw:  Alone, in a tiny black-lit room doused in rainbow confetti, a skinny male hipster sat on a barstool with techno blaring.

I laughed (I couldn’t help it!). He remained serious.  I introduced myself again, and asked, trying to keep a straight face, for the wristbands. Cautiously, he handed them over, asking me to please keep them hidden until I leave the store.

I thanked him and replied, “Enjoy the party.”
