She’s Lean. She’s Mean. She’s Agyness Deyn.

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Spotted in the new issue of NYLON Korea:

Agyness Deyn modeling a brand called IDOHC.

It’s got flying bird logos all over the clothes that look a lot like the American Eagle logos.

But they’ve also got more puffy coats than AE.

A lot more.

Check out Aggy modeling it all below!

Live From Soho House, It’s Florence And Not the Machine

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Last night, Soho House was unusually packed with bright young things.

There was the artist Blue Logan, the writer (and expert french fry cooker) Andrew Bevan, the front-row fixture Bee Shaffer, our own Shruti Ganguly, and a ton of shiny-haired high school girls who looked more like Blair Waldorf than anyone I ever knew in 10th grade.  Mick Rock stood in the corner.

We were there to see Florence Welch, the lead singer from Florence and the Machine, who played a 30 minute acoustic set while we sat gamely on the floor, clapping and singing, aided by beer and lots of cute British guys.

Naturally, I smuggled my camera up to the front.  Check out some performance pics below.

Running the (Music) Marathon, Day 4 (And Beyond)

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Number of bands:5

Number of band members with cool tights: 4

Number of mac’n'cheese orders: 3

Wait, is CMJ already over? Because we haven’t stopped going to shows…Here’s the rundown:

The Smith Westerns: Barely out of their diapers, and already playing killer rock. Catch them before Ryan McGinley does.

Dum Dum Girls: Dee Dee and her new backing band (including Frankie) live up to expectations – amazing outfits included. If only she smiled a little more onstage…

Lightspeed Champion: Alexa Chung approved. But we have dibs on the wizard outfit.

Small Black: Passion Pit, but with baseball caps.

Surfer Blood: Vampire Weekend, if they traded Cape Cod for Palm Beach (and jammed to Weezer way more).

Don and Done

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Our friend Natia Dune was cool enough to host a small party at Ion Studios last night for Don the Verb.

The label, founded by Hanna Astrom and Yanina Landsaat, has a strong vintage vibe – probably because the two designers also run their own vintage store.

We took photos of our favorite pieces for Spring 2010, which you can see below.

Happy Birthday, Geordon Nicol!

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

It’s time to party with this DJ, a part of the infamous MisShapes trio and a hallmark of downtown style circles thanks in part to his razor-sharp cheekbones to match his razor-cut hair.

Geordon was born in Canada and may or may not have appeared on Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Today, he lives in Manhattan, but frequently visits London, Paris, Miami, Los Angeles, and certain exclusive parts of the planet Neptune, which has been secretly turned into a nightclub by an anonymous blonde starlet and her conceptual artist boyfriend.

When not DJing, Geordon’s hobbies include being awesome.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GORGEOUS!!!

Tag! Neon Makes Everything Better

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Graffiti connoisseur Elisa Carmichael sent us a new load of photos from Austria, where several artists are currently working together on some installations.

To the left, check out a Banksy painting as cubed-out by Aakash Nihalani (don’t worry, all his “additions” are temporary masking tape, not paint).

Below, there’s some more neon additions to Know Hope, who’s been making frequent appearances on this site (and who set up an amazing mural just next to the Chelsea Hotel on a shut-down shop in NYC).  There’s also a Vimeo video of the artists in progress.

Click through to see everything, and if you have graffiti, send it over!

Eddie Borgo’s Pumpkin Can Beat Up Your Pumpkin

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I’m already jealous of my friend Stephanie LaCava for her amazing Rick Owens jacket.

Now I’m also jealous of her weekend:

She hung out with jewelry designer (and total sweetheart) Eddie Borgo for Vogue.com and made the most fashionable jack-o-lanterns I’ve ever seen.

Featuring Eddie’s trademark studs and grommets, the pumpkins come with a handy how-to photo gallery so you can (attempt) to do it yourself.

(Although be warned: I tried this morning with some leftover spikes from an accessories story and a mini-pumkin – it was really, really hard).
