There’s a lot of sequins going around this season, but how you style them could mean the difference between an ’80s flashback and a Best Dressed list.
So we asked some advice from our fashion closet on how best to wear the paillette trend this winter (including Ashish’s super luxe version, for $895, at left).
Michelle Reneau, who’s styled everyone from Alexa Chung to Taylor Momsen for our pages, says you’ve got a pretty wide berth for playing around:
“You can wear a tight with it, even a patterned tight, as long as it’s opaque. Do something sheer with this, and you get a little too far into ’80s territory. You could do a sock and a boot, too, depending on where you were going… just be careful with puffy sneakers, because then it becomes a little too Lily Allen.”
And let’s note that when Lily Allen went on our cover last year, she was actually wearing heels.
