Girls Who Like Boys Who Like The New York Times
Every publication has their obsessions, and we get that.
New York Magazine has a Gossip Girl fetish.
Vogue seems preoccupied with pailettes, Liz Goldywn, and diets, in no particular order.
And we can’t get enough of our neon.
But the Styles section at the New York Times might be taking the cake on the “Again?” factor, with a constant, and peculiar, barrage of stories about gender in fashion.
Weird, right?
But on November 6, Sunday Styles published a feature called “Can a boy wear a skirt to school?”
Now, 13 days later, they’ve got another feature, “It’s All a Blur to Them,” about young men and women going for the androgynous look.
(Two weeks ago on the New York Times website, a parenting columnist asked “Can a Boy Wear a Tutu for Halloween?” Comments ranged from supportive and nonchalant to totally panicked; the story was linked on the Styles section website).
So what’s going on?
Maybe someone in the newsroom is watching Mad Men and wondering why all their daughters / co-workers / dates can’t still look like that.
Or maybe they just wanted an excuse to feature Alexander Wang’s tough-girl spring collection a little bit early… which is more than understandable.
