What Are You Wearing on New Years Eve?

While you eat holiday leftovers and watch every movie airing on TBS and Bravo (hello, Elf!), there’s probably a pressing question in the back of your mind:

“What am I gonna wear for New Years?”

The answer, of course, is much like expensive real estate:

It depends on location, location, location.

A house party might call for leggings and flats, while an “Are you on the list?” affair needs heels and a healthy cloud of attitude.

If you’re lucky enough to be somewhere warm (Los Angeles? Texas? Miami?), you can go straight to your favorite outfit.

Those of us in more frigid places (Toronto? New York? Chicago?) have to deal with outerwear, too.

So who’s wearing what on New Years?

fyi, Texas is definitely NOT warm right now. It’s supposed to snow tomorrow…AGAIN.

  3. Alyson Says:

It turns out that my Christmas present is my NYE outfit. This worked out pretty perfect because I am always having a fit trying to find that perfect outfit. I live in South Texas, so the weather is unpredictable and it will be easier to rely on layers. My uncle bought me a Rodarte dress from their newest collection in Target. I first fell in love with the collection on your website and knew I had to have that dress. It is the black and grey cheetah print sequined dress. I think I will be wearing it with colored tight, probably pink, and some flats. I am only going to a house party and i really prefer comfort so I can last the whole night.

Probably some cocktail dress, black lace tights, and my Christian Lous. I have a gorgeous off-white cowl-neck, knee-length thick coat from Gap, and a vintage Oscar de la Renta glittery gold scarf. Plus olive-green elbow-length lace-knit gloves from H&M.

  9. Marlee Says:

I will probably wear a black sweater with my black coat over it. I am only going to a house party and I really prefer comfort so I can last the whole night.

  12. Meagan Says:

Well I recieved an email from Nylon with the Rodarte for Target collection and i pretty much had a spaz attack….I had to have the leopard print lace dress. So i began to beg and pleaded for my mother to buy me it for me. I successfully got the dress and it is AMAZING! I mean like when i look at it the dress just intoxicates my brain and that is all i can think about. But the only problem is i cant seem to find the right boots for it! I want the perfect pair of boots…Im thinking they should be thigh high or ankle, but nothing inbetween. I would have to say this is one of my favorite outfit i have ever worn… This is my 2010 year so im taking by storm….haha

I’m going to where my newest 510 skinny jeans – they’re blue
And I’m gonna wear this beautiful vintage jacket I got earlier this month at that cute store in SoHo. It’s Dior and it’s cute!
And just an old tee shirt to make it all seem very unplanned-I-look-fab-without-even-trying.
Oh and I have that cute monocle I want to wear as a necklace, that’ll be it for the accessories.
And my DKNY boots will do for the shoes!
2010 is going to have an awesome start!

  16. Bee Says:

I got this GORGE short, poofy dress from The Clothing Company strictly for NYE. It’s strapless with shimmery gold embroidered flowers all over; with a black lace under-lining. I’m wearing black sheer tights with either my black bootie heels or just black pointed flats. Accompanied by gold nail polish, of course! Gonna look fierce this New Years.

  17. Emmalineau Says:

Well, it’s going to be a sunny 97 degrees in Melbourne so am thinking my retro C&M swimsuit, a vintage polka dot scarf and a sarong sounds pretty well perfect. NYE outfit = tick.

  18. Lily Mustang Says:

I wish it was warm here in Big D. (Dallas, TX). It is going to snow. Currently, I have no clue what I am going to wear. I still might return to my favorite. My little black vintage crush velvet dress with stilettos. And to add a NYE flare: pair of glittery/ sequences tight or sweater.

  24. Gabriela Says:

Well, California is California, so… it’s not cold. It’s not super warm, so it’s impossible to wear just a dress, but still…
I am thinking about a white dress with a skelleton printed on it, with some killer ankleboots and a leather jacket just to get to the house party.
Pearl earrings, a simple makeup and my hair… Just let the hair be whatever it wants to be!

  25. Liane Says:

    Now, I just need a snazzy top…

  29. Jessi Says:

I’ll be wearing my grad dress from years ago. It was 600 so I was definitely gonna buy a dress I wouldn’t only wear once! It’s not blue or poofy or anything. Its short and black and flowy and silk, the back ties up and I had it custom fit! http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v76/207/45/783725353/n783725353_533394_5388.jpg

    A fuyu hanten!
Traditional Japanese workmen’s coats or jackets. Made of fine quality padded cotton, this kimono-style short, slip-over coat that in the past often featured the employer’s crest or name embroidered on the back as an early form of advertising. Hanten make excellent, warm outdoor coats for picnics, sports events or the garden.

  46. Ashley E. Says:

I’m torn between a royal blue mini-dress that is loaded with sparkles, or a classic little black dress with a fitted bodice and a semi-poofy skirt.

Either one will be paired with sparkly accessories and my Cole Haan heels ( It’s cold and icy in Boston. My feet need to be sturdy and comfy )

    Decisions, decisions…

  55. Jeanice Mcgroarty Says:

The Mexican peso has had a virtual collapse in the past few months and bargains are everywhere. A really great dinner for two in an attractive and upscale restaurant in Chihuahua (Mexican City and word meaning: rat on steroids) including shared appetizer, shared desert, two HUGE T-Bone steak dinners, at least 3 drinks and tip came to $35.00. The downside to shopping is that there isn’t much to choose from…..unless you want junk or boots. This much about Mexico is true: If it’s on the endangered species list, the Mexicans make boots out of it.
