We love graffiti at NYLON – just check out our 275 pages of street art on this blog.
But there’s a difference between respectful – if technically illicit – paintings and posts, and just running around trying to wreck the world.
At left, an odd example of that second kind of graffiti.
Web editor Rebecca spotted a kid with a can of hot pink spray paint sprinting down Spring Street, tagging everything he possibly could before a police officer tackled him, and he burst into tears (we last spotted him in the back of a squad car outside our office, about an hour ago).
Before getting caught, the neon pink maniac made a mess of the Chanel boutique, but it’s weird:
The juxtaposition of the hot pink squiggles against Chanel’s classic designs still okay, which means what they say is true – Chanel really can make anything look good.

As dumb as someone dropping thousands for a bag at Chanel?

Some people would say that a Chanel Boutique in Soho is completely wrong and an affront to the neighborhood and that what that kid did with pink spray paint is what happens on the streets of New York City – or performance art. To say that some street “art” is of more value than other graffiti is pretty typical in this day and age – it’s all the same. Ridiculous.

It doesn’t matter if someone decides to drop $$$ on a purse or two or ten. This is someone’s place of business, they take pride in what they do, they work hard, this is a very very personal thing. This graffiti is not ”art’ it’s just someone being an idiot. If you want to make a statement, make a statement about Haiti.

I think this kid is fun, and yes it looks like it was done on purpose by the store itself.

Good day!
The name’s John, though most people call me ‘Freaky’.
I’m in my “teens” and kinda lost in the world at the moment…however, I’ve found the hippie “culture” and discovered that it fits me very well…I’m not trying to fit into it, it just kind of fitted onto me.
I have lots of questions, which hopefully some of the older and wiser people on this board will be able to help answer.
Here’s to hoping this board will be able to help me discover more of myself and fuel my beliefs.
Keep smiling, John from Payday Loans
