First Look: Babysitter’s Club Reprints!
At left, a cover of Kristy’s Big Idea, one of the most-read books of our generation.
The beginning of the Babysitter’s Club saga, the story chronicles bossy tomboy Kristy Thomas and her friends – shy Mary Anne, artsy Claudia Kishi, fashion-obsessed Stacey McGill, and earthy Dawn Schaeffer – as they navigate the pitfalls of ninth grade.
The books are getting re-released this Spring, and with them come brand new covers.
We’ve got the first three down below.
Is it about time they got a makeover?
Or is this the BSC equivalent of sacrilege?!
PS and unrelated: Wouldn’t Sweet Valley High be a great name for a punk band?

I read them when I was in elementary school.. hah
January 25th, 2010 at 3:31 pm
woah, nerdy flashbacks of my younger self greedily checking out every BSC book avail at the public library are flooding back…
sweet valley high would be such a fab band name, mainly if the two lead singers were obnoxiously perfect in looks, yet proudly different in personality, lol

A CUPCAKE for Stacey’s book cover? Is that some kind of sick joke? SHE’S DIABETIC. Ugh, I hate progress. The original book covers were ART.
January 25th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
I used to LOVE these books! Not sure about the new covers. They really make the books look antique, unless that’s what’s in now.
January 25th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
I don’t know how I feel about these designs. I think they could’ve been a little more innovative. The concept is okay, I just don’t know about the execution.
January 25th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
They are really underselling their audience with these. If I was a 10 year old today, I would not pick these up because I would be under the impression (based on the covers) that they were for girls even younger than myself. Really, a notebook, a cupcake, and a phone? How stupid do they think young girls are?
January 25th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
Ugh, they are not nearly as good as the originals. They look so dingy and plain.
January 25th, 2010 at 4:02 pm
UGHH I HATE these covers! I remember the old school covers with the letters in baby blocks. The good ol’ days…

Yeah, as a graphic designer, I’m not feeling them. Simple is good, but this is just…almost kinda tacky? Meh.
January 25th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
The truth about Stacey is she can’t have cupcakes.
January 25th, 2010 at 5:09 pm
Eek! I thought these covers were a joke…. Kinda looks like they were thrown together in Microsoft Word using ClipArt.
January 25th, 2010 at 6:11 pm
hate the covers :l but love that they’re coming out with these books again to get a bigger audience. i loved them so much!!
January 25th, 2010 at 7:46 pm
the new covers are really sad to look at,after seeing the originals, which were amazing.these make the books look like just another boring, run of the mill elementary school girl series, which they aren’t.
they completely lack creativity.
January 25th, 2010 at 8:17 pm
ew these covers are lame…probably would not have picked this up if i was a kid. the old covers were better…i read every single book in the entire series.
January 26th, 2010 at 5:48 am
Those new covers are truly horrible. I love these books for nostalgic reasons, but WOW they blew it with the covers!
January 26th, 2010 at 12:21 pm
These are so retro ugly, I can’t even believe it. These look MORE dated than the original covers. The typography is whimsical 50s, and the clip art is whimsical fail. I mean really, it’s 2010, you’re UPDATING the content of the books, but you put a ROTARY push-button phone on the cover? When is the last time you saw a two-piece phone outside of an office environment. Fail, fail, fail Scholastic. Serious fail.
January 26th, 2010 at 12:26 pm
I don’t think they’re quite as bad as everyone’s making them out to be. They’re not the greatest and of course I like the originals better, but I dunno… I just think it’s awesome they’re being re-released.
January 26th, 2010 at 4:48 pm
Listen, they should be left alone! I was ADDICTED To these books as a youngster- and I wouldn’t have been interested at all if they were in these covers. Besides, the covers helped you to visualize what the girls looked like- it help make the stories come alive.
January 26th, 2010 at 5:27 pm
OK. Reprinting for a new generation–Yes!!! Using these simplistic covers that don’t let you see the characters? NO!!! I did notice a couple of mistakes in the article, though–Dawn Schafer hadn’t moved to town yet in the first book, and the girls were in seventh grade, not ninth grade. But these stories are still as fun and relevant as they were twenty years ago.
January 26th, 2010 at 7:09 pm
The originals were so much better.
January 27th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
Netflicks has The BSC movie for free. It’s great.
March 30th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
Oh my gosh… those covers are so ugly it’s not funny! I’ve read a good amount of the books, and would have given it a look of disgust if they had had a cover like this!
April 17th, 2010 at 2:09 pm
i dont tink so…
April 18th, 2010 at 6:20 pm
I’d rather see Stacey’s working-class-mother-sty – ehem, I mean, SOPHISTICATED outfits on the cover instead of this.

Hi everyone
The name’s John, though most people call me ‘Freaky’.
I’m in my “teens” and kinda lost in the world at the moment…however, I’ve found the hippie “culture” and discovered that it fits me very well…I’m not trying to fit into it, it just kind of fitted onto me.
I have lots of questions, which hopefully some of the older and wiser people on this board will be able to help answer.
Here’s to hoping this board will be able to help me discover more of myself and fuel my beliefs.
Take care, John from Personal Loans!

卷扬机:活动板为铸铁件,经过回火处理后再进行前期处理,从而保证了安全性,OA再进行前期处理,加工后表面镀金,再通过外圆磨加工,以完全保证光滑度。

Really these covers are UGLY! I read the BSC books but was more into the Sweet Valley series’. But anyway, I agree that these covers appear more dated than the originals! I’m a big fan of the orginal covers for both this series as well as the SV series’ just because I grew up with them. When I conjure up an image of a BSC book I see the baby block letters and the painted look of the characters. With SV, I picture the red lettering (not sure how to describe the font), in an arc shape around the painted look of the twins and then Brittany and Cynthia Daniel. Either way, liked BSC books but hate these new cover.
