She’s Got a Mouth on Her

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Spotted front-row at Burberry:

NYLON cover girl Mary Kate Olsen in all black, with permanently fixed shades, hair au natural, and… a brown mouth.

Before the catwalk lights came on, it looked like the deep purple shades we’d been playing with in the office, but in full white light, there was no mistaking it:

MK’s lipstick is a grayish brown, the color of kiln clay after it bakes.

You can get the color from Makeup Forever or M.A.C, and it would work better as a lip pencil than a lipstick, so there would be less shine.

But would you try it? Or are there some things best left for the Olsens to enjoy alone?

That’s What You Get For…

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Though we haven’t yet spotted it on Katy Perry, we’re already obsessed with Deborah Lippmann’s homage to our March NYLON cover girl.

“Waking Up In Vegas” is that taupe-putty gray that we’ve been freaking out over ever since we spotted it on the Chanel runway.

Though we’re still obsessed with our own DIY version of the shade, Lippmann’s comes a close second.

And not just because she took a page from Perry’s catchy songbook (or our recent travel itinerary). xxRebecca

Hear Me Now: Joanna Newsom

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

I don’t usually get a list of rules when I get a CD in the mail.

But then again, Joanna Newsom isn’t your average musician.

Her long-awaited third album, Have One On Me, is far from typical — starting with the fact that it’s three albums long.

(Yes, you read that right, it takes up three whole albums.)

Forget three-minute pop songs; the average track length is around eight minutes, with the title track clocking in at 11.

Of course, this isn’t an album to party to. Rather, it’s one to sit, listen, contemplate, sip some tea, read a book, play some chess, frolic through the forest, or whatever else happens in Newsom’s world.

In fact, I’m still digesting all three albums. (The cover took about a week to take in.) But this much is clear: it’s some pretty stuff.

And for that, well, I’ll go along with a few random rules. Pick up a copy here. xxRebecca

It’s A Little Wild and a Little Strange

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Let’s play a game of word association.

When we say “Hey Dude” you think…

Skincare?!?

Apparently. There’s a new beauty brand for dudes that takes its name from the iconic ’90s Nickelodeon show.

Though the inspiration is implicit (I mean, what else do you think when you hear “Hey Dude”?), we think there’s definite plot potential.

Buddy’s first shaving kit! Ted’s pre-date cleanser! Mr. Ernst’s eye cream!

Yippy-ki-yi-what?!? xxRebecca

I’m Your Biggest Fan

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame doesn’t just induct new members every year — it also picks artists best suited to introduce each band at the ceremony.

It’s like a Big Sister-Little Sister program, only replaced by, say, Metallica and Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Flea, respectively.

This year’s dynamic duos?

The BeeGee’s Barry and Robin Gibb are introducing ABBA.

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is introducing The Stooges.

But the weirdest match-up has to be Phish’s Trey Anastasio giving props to Genesis.

Because while the Phil Collins-led band is certainly influential among prog-rockers, we’ve never spotted him wearing hemp pants and Birks.

Maybe the Brit will take some sartorial inspiration from the crunchy Phish frontman (or better yet, ABBA). We’ll have to tune in on March 15 to find out…xxRebecca

I’m A Lumberjack (Wallet) and I’m OK

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Back in October, we gave out a bunch of Timo wallets for Freebie Friday.

They were compact, functional, and came in really cute patterns.

We’re not gonna lie: It was hard to send them away.

Fortunately, four new styles are now available at Urban Outfitters.

From their “lumberjack dad” print (literally, a lumberjack dad) to the “I repeat” design (little photos of a girl in some sweet round shades), these foldable wallets will be in our pockets very soon.

I’m eyeing the graffiti one–of course–but they are cheap enough ($18 each) to get all four! Check them out here. –LEXI LEWTAN

Where Do You Keep Your NYLONs?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Spotted on Flickr: A NYLON stash from @WaysideViolet.  Nice.  So where do you keep yours?
