Good Idea or Bad Idea: Bikini Blends

The most annoying thing about swimwear?
Losing half of a bikini.
Do you search for a top to match your lonesome bottom (or vice versa)?
Check out Sienna Miller’s bikini mash-up at left. Judging from the polka-dots & stripes combo, as well as the differing materials, we’re going to go ahead and presume this top and bottom didn’t come as a set.
While she looks cute in that relaxed, bohemian way, we’re not sure we could pull it off…
Thoughts?

Not only is mix n’ matching bikinis hard to pull off, it’s highly annoying when you find the bikini of your dreams but the top or the bottom is SOLD OUT! You’re stuck getting something else or…. uh…. making the move Sienna did in the picture above.

I love the look- I think matching top and bottom sets are outdated.

I don’t really like this… but I think mixing your bikini pieces sometimes workss… you have to really check if they match… cause then it really looks like you just lost one piece of a bikini. I have to say though… sienna miler looks great always!

I love mixing and matching, especially solids with prints! Perhaps Siennna’s move was a little riskier, but if you have the confidence then I say go for it!

It totally works! Just as long as the colors make appealing combinations and the mix of patterns aren’t too much on the eyes. Otherwise, mixing pieces works in so many ways, and it’s always helpful when you’ve lost a piece to your suit.

I never wear (or buy) matching bikini pieces. What’s the fun in that?
July 21st, 2010 at 5:44 pm
I’ve never worn matching bikinis! It’s way more fun to mix and match. Even if I buy a set, I don’t wear it together.

I always mix and match suits, otherwise I get bored. Usually one piece is solid but not always.

I think Sienna looks amazing here but the whole mixing and matching is a little iffy. If the colours work (are in the same family) than its usually fine but I’ve seen a few too many horrendous combinations to say I’m fully on board… I’ll usually buy a patterned top or bottom and find the opposite in a solid colour that works with the original pattern

brazilians have been doing that for years…

I think it depends. I think mixing a patterned piece with a solid color is okay but I think it looks weird if its too crazy.

absolutely love mixing and matching bikinis. it gives you something fresh to try. however not totally diggin Siena’s look here, they should be somewhat matchy

Personally, I think it’s wrong. I’m not a huge fan unless you’re doing a solid top with a patterened bottom and vice versa.
Check out my take some time on the MAC/Rodarte controversy. Let’s just say, I’m not really offended.

I’m brazilian, wich probably means more time at beach during summers thank bikinis to go along. We mix and match very much here, but mainly a pattern top with solid bottom, or the other way around. It’s a good way to make more out of your bikinis

good idea! i purposely buy solid bikinis in different colors so that i can mix tops/bottoms. i like the look and it’s less stressful trying to find a match!

Several of the points of this post are good but had me personally wanting to know, did they really imply that? One thing I have to point out is your publishing skills are very excellent and I will be coming back again for any fresh blog post you produce, you may well have a brand-new fan. I book-marked your website for personal reference.

A lot of people are writing on the same topic as this one, but it is done in a special way here. Keep it up.

Great post, forced me to post a comment instead of my silent reading nature. Thanks.
