Marc Jacobs is no stranger to using random household things in quirky-cool ways.

For instance, remember when he created earrings out of zippers?

And although they were cute, it was universally decided that they weren’t cute enough to warrant their $58 price tag.

Here’s another option that’s pricey in stores, but easy to DIY.

Check out his safety pin hair clip, left.

Sure, it’s sterling silver (and $32).

But we think we could make it ourselves in less than the time it takes to get to the store (and at a fraction of the cost).

Time for a weekend project!
