Even though black is one of the most popular color choices to wear, it’s surprisingly difficult to pull off.

Let’s face it:

it’s hard to wear head-to-toe black without looking like you’re going to a funeral.

But at the Matthew Williamson Cocktail party this week, Rachel Bilson manages to work a black lace Christian Dior dress (along with a dark blazer).

We think she looks chic, without being scary.

How does she do it?

The secret could be her nude Brian Atwood pumps, which prevent her outfit from becoming too severe (or, looking like she’s prepping her witchy Halloween costume a month early).
