d.i.y. marble manicure

A manicure….inspired by clothes?
Yes, it’s totally happening.
Topshop Unique’s S/S11 was filled with gorgeous, swirly printed dresses in shades of yellows, reds, and grays.
Everyone from DIY blogs to Topshop themselves (at the brand’s beauty launch party) have already offered their own take on this new tie-dyed look by making marbled manicures.
And now, it’s our turn to attempt it ourselves.
Read how we did it below!
Warning: this process was very time consuming and definitely messy. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it.
1. Take a bowl of water and drip in 2 or 3 different shades of nail polish.
2. Using a toothpick, swirl the colors around until they’re mixed.
3. Then, dip you fingertip into the mixture quickly, and then pull it away.
4. Using a cotton ball, carefully remove the polish around the nail (this takes a while, and is helpful if you wrap the toothpick in a nailpolish-soaked cottonball to get the edges).
5. Voila! Tell us what you think in the comments below.

totally try taping off the cuticles/edges of your nails with clear/masking tape so the nail polish can’t deposit itself. takes a little time but is waay less frustrating then removing all the nail polish from your skin.

I learned about this method on YouTube a few months ago- if you look up ‘water marble nails’, you’ll find a ton of videos.
Like colleen, it does hel a lot to cover your nails with tape…but I have also seen people cover their nail beds wih thick lotion and it works the same way.

Y mom got this done at the salon but instead of dipping her fingers in the paint they painted her nail one solid color(light) let it dry an te put large drops of nail polish in two-three color and carefully swirled them together with the tp of a pin. Worked pretty well.

There is such a better way to do this!!! Follow this link. Its not messy or time consuming of you do it the right way. Be sure to use tape, (i use 3 pieces. One at the base of cuticle and around finger, one under tip of nail and on sides of cuticles, and on in the back to cover the pad of finger and also to help cover the sides of the cuticles.) and I found I can use up to 3 or 4 nails per round of polish.
