Although old vans might be the ultimate family vacation machine, you wouldn’t necessarily call them works of art, right?

Photographer Joe Stevens begs to differ.

In his series, “Vans and the place they were,” Stevens has photographed hundreds of images of the retro cars on 120 mm film ever since the project first began back in 1996.

While Stevens has succeeded in capturing the dwindling number of clunky vans that are still on the road, he admits it’s not complete yet.

As he notes, “Consequently the goal of the project is to one day shoot the last remaining van on the final frame of photographic film in existence. Then the project will be finished.”

Talk about ambitious.
